They were immediately referred to the House Ways and Means Committee. The tax group, In its report to the Legislature recently, estimated that its program provide a net gain of $13,412,000 a year in state revenues even though its suggestion for abolition of the 1947 soft drink levy is carried out. It said its new business taxes would produce $99,300,000 a year or the same amount now brought in by the present four per cent corporate net income, capital stock, corporate franchise and corporate loans taxes all of which would be repealed. In addition, it said the state would $7,600,000 from the proposed four per cent tax on investment income and $24,165,000 from the income tax on unincorporated business and professions. The remaining $17 million from the tax on investment income would be shared by counties.
