I Friday, April www.rapidcityjournal.com 10,2009 Scoreboard To or report e-mail a sports score, call 394-8440 SIDELINES ANGEL The Associated Press Louisville's Angel McCoughtry answers questions during a news conference at the NCAA Women's Final Four college basketball tournament. Dream takes Angel McCoughtry with top pick in 2009 WNBA draft The Associated Press SECAUCUS, N.J. The Atlanta Dream selected Angel McCoughtry with the first pick in the WNBA draft on Thursday. The Louisville forward averaged 22.8 points and 9.5 rebounds during her last three years and led the Cardinals to the NCAA championship game Tuesday against winner Connecticut. She joins a vastly improved Atlanta team a year after they finished 4-30 in their inaugural season while setting the WNBA record for losses.

The Dream have added former AllStars Chamique Holdsclaw and Michelle Snow, as well as Nikki Teasley and Sancho Lyttle in the offseason. Washington took Maryland's Marissa Coleman with the No. 2 pick, and Terrapins teammate Kristi Toliver was selected next by Chicago. Coleman averaged 18.1 points and 8.6 rebounds, while Toliver had a team-high 18.4 points, 4.9 assists and 3.2 rebounds to help Maryland reach the NCAA regional finals. The Minnesota Lynx picked Connecticut's Renee Montgomery with the fourth pick.

Montgomery had career-bests of 16.5 points and 5.1 assists this season while helping the Huskies finish the season 39-0 for their sixth national championship. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Davidson guard Stephen Curry, the nation's leading scorer, is still undecided on whether to leave school for the NBA. His father, former NBA sharpshooter Dell Curry, says Thursday that his son is in "pause mode." He indicated a decision could come next week. The deadline to declare for the draft is April 26. Curry averaged 28.6 points for the Wildcats.

A year earlier, he led Davidson within a missed 3-pointer of the Final Four. The 6-foot-3 Curry is projected as a first-round pick. If Curry returns for his senior season, he'd have an outside shot at eclipsing Pete Maravich's NCAA Division I career scoring record. COLLEGE BASKETBALL: Miami junior forward Dwayne Collins has declared for the NBA draft but could return to the Hurricanes next season because he has not hired an agent. Miami announced Collins' decision Thursday afternoon.

The 6-foot-8 Collins was Miami's second-leading scorer last season, averaging 10.6 points per game. He also had a team-high 7.3 rebounds per game during the 2008-09 season. Miami coach Frank Haith said in a statement that he supported Collins' decision to "test the waters." SOCCER: Manchester United's parent company is posting a pretax loss of $65.9 million from last season despite an improved operating profit by the club after winning the Premier and Champions League. The debt repayments by American owner Malcolm Glazer, who took out a loan to buy the club in 2005, meant the balance sheet showed another loss. Glazer also owns the Tampa Bay Buccaneers.

Figures released on Thursday by Companies House show that United's operating profit went up $7.35 million to $118.3 million in the fiscal year ending June 2008. That included increased TV revenues and bonuses from title successes. NHL: The Boston Red Sox are in discussions with the to hold the next Winter Classic at Fenway Park. A baseball official, speaking on the condition of anonymity because no deal had been reached, confirmed that Fenway is a site being considered for the next New Year's Day game. In previous years, the outdoor game has been played at Ralph Wilson Stadium, the home of the Buffalo Bills, and the Chicago Cubs' Wrigley Field.

Red Sox spokeswoman Pam Ganley referred questions to the NHL. A league spokesman said no decision had been made. COLLEGE FOOTBALL: Former Nebraska football player Hunter Teafatiller has been arrested on suspicion of driving on a suspended license. Nebraska State Patrol spokeswoman Deb Collins said a state trooper stopped Teafatiller at 1:18 a.m. Thursday on Interstate 180 in Lincoln.

Collins said the trooper pulled over Teafatiller because his 1998 Ford Explorer had no front license plate. He spent the night in jail. In January, Teafatiller was sentenced to 10 days in jail and fined $500 for a second drunken -driving offense. His driver's license also was revoked for six months because he violated terms of his probation from his first DUI conviction in 2007. NBA: The Cleveland Cavaliers have signed forward Jawad Williams, filling the roster spot left open by the loss of injured Eric Snow.

Snow was released because of a career-ending knee injury. Williams played in nine games for the Cavaliers earlier this season. After his second 10-day contract with Cleveland expired in February, Williams played in 19 games for Rio Grande of the NBA's Development League. With the Vipers, the 6-foot-9 Cleveland native averaged 25.7 points, 4.2 rebounds and 2.3 assists. Williams won an NCAA title with North Carolina in 2005.

NBA: The New York Knicks, in desperate need of a shot blocker, have signed former lottery pick Mohamed Sene. Sene was taken by the Seattle SuperSonics with the 10th pick in the 2006 draft and played in 46 NBA games before Oklahoma City waived him on Feb. 19. The 7-footer from Senegal has averaged 10.0 points, 10.4 rebounds and 3.7 blocks this season for Albuquerque of the NBA Development League. He was the D-League co-defensive player of the year last season.

TENNIS: Second-seeded Caroline Wozniacki advanced to the quarterfinals of The MPS Group Championships with a 6-3, 7-5 victory over Virginie Razzano on Thursday. In the first set. Wozniacki held serve to lead 4-3. Razzano took a 40-0 lead in the eighth game, but Wozniacki won five straight points to break and then held serve to close out the set. Wozniacki broke again at 5-5 in the second set, falling behind 40-30 before Razzano made a series of mistakes.

Wozniacki won the last game in five points. Also on Thursday, Tamira Paszek earned a spot in the quarterfinals with a 3-6, 6-3, 6-4 win over Varvara Lepchenko. Wozhiacki will play Friday against the winner of a late match between Bethanie Mattek-Sands and Daniela Hantuchova. 1 Michael Campbell 41-39-80 MASTERS TEE TIMES All Times MOT At Augusta National Golf Chub Augusta, Ga.
