At the end, the two youngsters are back home to-open that horse ranch, carrying with them the "heaven they found in Brooklyn.

A.i Miss Lynn puts it: "Brooklyn is truly a wondrous place." No review of the film would be complete without mention of the three Cheever Sisters, char, acters reminiscent of the two lethal-minded old dears in "Ar. senic and Old Lace," only the trio is considerably les? danger-ous. The eccentric three is played bv Margaret Hamilton, Moyna Aiagill and Irene Ryan. Other good hits are added by, Lionel Slander as a bellhop, Michael Chekhov as proprietor of the strangest riding academy like an honest-to-life drama nicturc. Excellently teameu obvious comedy in telling about a pair of Texas innocents in the big city, the Brooklyn part of it, of course, who finally strike out again for the wide open spaces, Texans, they come to realize, belong in Texas.

There's nothing wrong with the story idea by itself, but it has been handled in a confused, rambling manner. Produced for United Artists release by Robert S. Nevertheless, though held back from any real distinction by the story's basic falsity and thealrical values, "Johnny Belinda" is still a touching, moving drama. Firmly and shrewdly it wins your interest, manipulates your attention and keeps McNally, though he swaggers a little too much, convinces as in history, Colin Campbell ana Clem Bevans. While the season is having a belated start, there having been a more t.ian usual falling-by-the-wayside of new productions, the Fund is hopeful that the successes will show up in good time, they have in the past. Too bad the story wasn more honest. It could have been a studio acquired screen rights for 10 years for a reported fine movie as well as a fine show. Irving Rapper will direct the an unused stable in the rear and she wants to live in it. She is crazy about horses and hopes to be able to buy a ranch some day back home. The story is told in flashbacks, with James Dunn as a kind of narrator.

He plays a bartender who happens to meet the Texas miss and the young Texas chap, a would-be playwright, from whom she thumbed a ride to New York. Even though the story is imposed from the outside, instead of flowing inevitably from the characters' nature and circumstances, the movie has a strong emotional appeal. For this we can thank a beautifully honest performance by Jane Wyman in the role of fortune's stepchild and one equally as fine by Lew Ayres Us an idealistic young doctor who realizes her worth.
