Green Wood Cemetery cials today hoped that "within a week" they would be able to complete the burial of 200 bodies temporarily placed in the cemetery's vault during the sevenweek other strike members of of gravediggers Local 293, and United Cemetery Workers, C. 1. 0.

Since Saturday morning, following ratification of the contract Friday night, Joseph Manning, president of local, and a spokesman for the cemetery said. Green-Wood's 19 regular gravediggers, supplemented by about 12 "extras," have been digging graves to receive the bodies from the vault and those which will normally arrive at the cemetery. The gravedigging crew, the cemetery spokesman said, worked all day Sunday and yesterday. Revealing that the cemetery Carole Landis Died Smiling Continued from Page 1 reason for her death and ing in her Monterey-style Brentwood mansion told her secret. They Dined A Alone Miss Landis, who'd been swimming, dining, and lunching daily Harrison the past few weeks, had him to dinner Sunday night.

They dined alone and parted at 9 o'clock. Police estimated she gulped the tablets about four hours later. Her body was found near the doorway of her bathroom overlooking Santa Monica Bay. Her head was pillowed on a brown leather jewel case and her long hair fell casually to the round neckline of her white lace blouse. Her gold-sandaled feet were tucked under her unmussed blue-and-white checked skirt.

She wore an oversized St. Christopher medal and a gold wristwatch, engraved In her left hand she held satin ribbon, lettered with the Lord's Prayer. Left Note to 'Mommie' Propped against a huge cologne bottle was a note, on her personal stationery, addressed to "Dearest Mommie." It read: "I'm sorry, really sorry to put you through this. But there no way to avoid it. I love you, darling, you have been the most wonderful mom ever and that applies to all our family Everything goes to you.

Look in the files, and there is a will Goodby, my angel, pray for me. Your Baby." When Harrison telephoned yesterday afternoon Miss Landis', maid, Fanny May Bolden, said she was asleep. Harrison thought that strange and went to the Landis home. The maid said Harrison's face twisted when he saw the body. "Oh, 110.

"Probably" seven others, he added, would arrive during the day and buried routine fashion. The rapidity with which the held-over bodies are interred, cemetery spokesman said, depends to a large extent on individual family. Notices, added, have been sent out informing the families of the strike's end and that they may now arrange for formal burials.

The union contract, which was negotiated through the mediation of the city's Labor Relations Division, provides a 10 percent general increase for the 215 gravediggers other workers at the cemetery. One hundred of the workers are to employed steadily and parttime employes are guaranteed weeks work per year. Landis became the hit of dozen films but was the flop of four marriages. She married writer Irving Wheeler when she was a sweater girl of 15. The union lasted 25 days.

She first starred in the movie "One Million B. Other films included: "Turnabout" "Four's Crowd" and "I Wake Up Screaming." During the war she gave up the movies to tour European and North African army camps with Martha Raye, Mitzi fair and Kay Francis. But in her personal life Miss Landis found only unhappiness. Her second marriage to broker Willis. Hunt lasted two months.
