A trip to Athletic Park on Friday afternoon c.onvinced this scribe that every dollar spent on the purchase and improvement of the field was the best investment the Scranton School District ever made.

More than 150 youngsters, boys and girls, were busily engaged in various sport activities and all were properly supervised. In a far corner of the field, Tech and Central were battling in a Lackawanna Baseball League game before a good sized audience. Off in another nook two grade schools were engaged in a softball league game with Paul Rafferty, former baseball coach at Central, as the umpire. In still another section, Ida Phillips Reese, physical education teacher at Tech, had a large group of lassies also playing softball. On the track.

North Scranton and South Scranton were battling it out in a dual meet that aw three records broken by the North Enders. And while all of this was transpiring members of the Tech and Central track teams were practicing. The entire program is in charge of Jerry Coyne, director of physical education in the cijy schools, and his able assistant, Fiore Cesare. The pair thus have plenty of vocal assistance in testifying that the purchase of the park was the best gift the school children ever received. The school coaches, principals and faculty managers, thanks to the ideal environment, have all been working overtirr in the interest of the youngsters.

A good example of how the teachers toil was furnished during the Tech-Central game. A foul ba" was hit over the wall into adjacent Catholic Club Field. Allan Segal, faculty manager at Central, immediately left the game to retrieve the baseball. Does Segal have to chase the fouls," Art Morris. Tech faculty manager was asked.

This is Centrals home game 'and I chased them the last time was Morris reply. Neither Segal nor Morris had any complaints and like a majority of those connected with school sports, were only too willing to do more than their share. Incidentally members of the School Board are frequent visitors at the park. Watching Fridays activities were Directors John Erhardt, William Edwards, Daniel Beynon, Nelson Nichols and William Evans.
