IS BROOKLYN EAGLE, FRI AUG. 1. 1947 4 STAR SUMMER SHOW GERRI FOUR featuring TV a vr1T1 Brooklyn and Broadway teas NIGHT LIFE Tfc -fit jvicfrA LCJ By LEW SHEAffER THE GAGE TOLLNER TRADITION The sign on the window read that Gage Tollner's would be closed two weeks for Installation of "new air-conditioning and redecorating the flining room for your greater comfort." One word "redecorating" caused most of the concern. Everybody was wondering what changes were to be made in the famous old seafood house with its wall panels of faded red velvet, ornate mirrors and other Victorian furnishings. They wondered and were agin any changes.

Well, the Fulton St. landmark has reopened and I'm happy to report that it's still the same old Oage and Tollner's. They have repainted the ceiling, cleaned the velvet panels, polished the brass lighting fixtures, installed the latest type of air conditioning, and nothing more. The early habitues would still feel at home there. It still looks like a back- ground for handlebar mustaches 1 cm yj Arthurs add ballroom grace Stream's Park Inn.

Kay had never seen a photo graph of Brenda but she knew who it was the instant she glimpsed the smart, fur-coated figure through the heavily leaded glass door. A taxi driver was carrying her luggage. Brenda was tall, dark-eyed, imperious, scarcely glancing at the nurse who opened the door, she said, "I'm Mrs.

Ashamed of herself, Kay said then, "Can I help you?" "No, thanks! They're not heavy. The rest of my lugsage will arrive later." Kay followed her upstairs, past Grandmothers door which had been left open, but Brenda did not stop. Straight into Warren's room she marched, asking as she did so. "Where is every one?" "Mimi and her mother are shopping," Kay replied. Her face was whiter Brenda put down the suitcases and removing her coat, tossed it on a chair.

Now that Kay understood the situation she had to admit that his conduct toward her had been Justified.

So long as he was married to Brenda, even though they were not living together, he was not free to be attentive to any other woman. His sense of responsibility toward a wife he continued to support after she had left him gave Kay a feeling of emotional security. If Warren behaved so honorably he must have a fundamental respect for hla marriage vows. It couldn't have been his fault, she told herself. He had blamed himself for "so dull' but to Kay he was itill the most interesting man she had ever met.

Everything about him appealed to her. His loyalty to a wife he no longer loved, his tenderness to his grandmother. hi love of music, even his reserve, were all qualities Kay admired. Yet more potent than any of these was their mutual sense of belonging. Over a year ago Brenda had suggested a divorce: Warren had insisted that they wait but now he had written giving his consent.
