But the school flourished, and in 1977 she raised more than $2 million to build a new facility, which houses programs in music, visual arts, drama and dance for more than 1,000 students. Miss Maynor retired as the school's executive director in 1979.

24, 1985. I visited you the other day. The snow was gently resting upon the earth where we reluctantly, yet ever so gently, laid you to rest eleven long years ago. As I stood there staring at the beautiful flecks of sunlight as they danced across the snow, I suddenly realized, as I had so many times before, that I couldn't reach out and touch you- not through the snow, not through the ground and not through the time that now separates us. The pain, the hurt and the sorrow that I've been fighting for so long, once again, rushed over me.

Why aren't you here? What would you be like today? Would you be as strong and as beautiful as my mind imagined you would be? Then, for a brief moment, I saw you as I had eleven years ago- smiling, with your eyes as brilliant as the sun that was now glistening upon your grave. I smiled and wiped away the tears. Again, I I I I I I took solace in your remembrance. Though it's so very hard to keep missing you Kenny, I am forever fortunate just to have had the opportunity to love you.
