Tbe big auditorium was filled with visitors In the celebration of the fortieth year of bis pastorate In the Fourth Reformed Tres-pyterlan Church, Nineteenth and Catharine Mreets, yesterday the Rev. Dr. David Steele received many tributes from fellow-ministers and expressions of good will and loyalty from his large congregation. The services began In the morning at 10.30 o'clock. Afternoon and evening services Were held.

Several visiting pastors made eddiesses and special music, was sung. Among those taking part In yesterday's fervloes were the Rev. Samuel P. Herron, as deacon and by the Rev. Joseph F.

O'Keefe as sub-deacon. The masters of ceremonies were the Itev. James McGene-ran and the Rev. Dr. John B.

McGlnley. Archbishop Ryan and Bishop Prendergast sat on either side of the sanctuary. The Archbishop was attended as deacons of and the friends of the graduating classmen. The police and neighbors say they quarreled about 25 cents. Dever had given his wife his week's wages, $11, earlier In the day.

Mrs. Dever declined to talk at the hear-lug yesterday morning. She and her husband seemed very affectionate toward each other, and only a week at the Polyclinic Hospital, she cried bitterly while he was undergoing a slight and perfectly safa nasal operation. Dr. Steele is the third oldest Presbyterian pastor, in rolnt of service, in this city. He was ordained In IStil and has had only the one charge.

His sermon in the morning was no historical one, reviewing the many events of his service. The Fourth Reformed congregation of Philadelphia was organized on May 10, 1S4S, In the house of Joseph Fleming, at Twenty-fourth and Linn streets. Its membership was then about thirty, and the Rev. Dr. S.

B. Crawford was pastor until 1856. Afterward the congregation moved to a ball at Twenty-first and Callowhlll streets, and ngaln in 1S50 to a new edifice at Eighteenth and Filbert streets. The Rev. Dr.

Samuel P. Herron succeeded the Rev. S. B. Crawford as pastor, serving until 1862, when his congregation was merged with the Sixth from Port Antonio: Grecian, from Boston; schooner Jeremiah Smith, Parsons, from New selves the vows of ordination.

June 9-The men most talked of for president of the International Jubilee convention of the Young Men's Christian Association, which will be In session here this week, are John Wananiaker, of Philadelphia; Former Comptroller of the Currency James H. Eckles, of Chicago, anl Wi E. Dodge, of New York. While the deliberative body will begin Its sessions on Tuesday, the actual opening of the Jubilee takes place to-morrow evening, when an exhibit, which typifies the broad, general lines of worth of the association, will be thrown open to the public.
