When four physicians from the Scranton area realized the importance of one of those needs, they approached the Executive Director of Saint Joseph's.

Many of their patients were traveling from the upper valley area for oncology treatment on a daily or weekly basis. Those Doctors, Francis J. Laluna, Salvatore J. Scialla, William J. Heim, dnd Robert E.

Wright, met with the Executive Director and the result was a weekly Oncology Clinic, which opened in January, 1981. The success of this clinic was evident on its first anniversary when statistics revealed that over 400 patients were treated during the first year. The clinic is held every Monday afternoon staffed with the four doctors on a rotating basis. They are assisted by a group of caring nurses and volunteers a group so closely knit they have more than just a patient-doctor-nurse relationship they're a family. This type of interaction at Saint Joseph's isn't unusual.

To us, you are not just a patient with a number, but an individual who needs kindness, compassion, and quality care something that Saint Joseph's Hospital is noted for providing.
