30 EDWARD APPEL, SERVED CASKET FIRM 51 YEARS Edward Appel of 114-06 84th Richmond Hill, an executive of the National Casket Company, with which he was associated for 51 years, died today at his home. He was 69 and had been ill since September. Mr. Appel, who was a member of the board of directors of the casket company, was in charge of purchase and distribution of funeral accessories for his firm with offices at Long Island City. He was past master of Doric Lodge, 280, F.

A. vice president of the church Council Andrew's Lutheran Church in Queens and was 8 member of the Queens County Grand Jury. He has also served as scoutmaster of Troop 364 of the Bushwick-Arlington Council, Boy Scouts of America. Mr. Appel was born in Manhattan, Sept.

26, 1871, and started his career with the casket company on July 1, 1889, as an office boy. He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Anna Appel! a daughter, Mrs. Herman A. Moran, 61, well-known shipping man and prominent in social and charitable activities here, died today in the Battle Creek Sanitarium, Battle Creek, according to word received at the Moran Towing Transportation Company, 17 Battery Place, Manhattan, of he was secretary and treasurer. Mr. Moran was an active member of the Montauk Club, the Emerald Association, the Roman Catholic Orphan Society of Brooklyn, the Anvil Chorus, St. Patrick's Society of Brooklyn and the Cathedral Club. Mr.

Moran had served as president of the New York Boat Owners' Association and also was a member of the Friendly Sons of St. Patrick, Washington Club, the Knights of Columbus, the Catholic Club of New York, the Rudder Club, the Maritime Association of the Port of New York, the New York Towboat Exchange, and the Harbor Carriers of the Port of New York. Frohman Rites Set for Monday Funeral services for Daniel Frohman, dean of American theatrical producers, will be held Monday at 11 a.m. in the Church of the Transfiguration (The Little Church Around the Corner), 1 E. 29th Manhattan.

Burial will be in Union Hill Cemetery, 1 L. I. Mr. Frohman died yesterday in the LeRoy Sanitarium, Manhattan, at the age of 89. His body was taken to the Universal Funeral Chapel, 597 Lexington Man- Francis X.

Cleary, Ex- Advertising Man Associated Many Years With Western Electric Co. A solemn requiem mass will be celebrated tomorrow morning in Our Lady of Victory R. C. Church, Throop Ave. and Macon for Francis X.

Cleary, former advertising manager of the Western Electric Company, Inc. Burial will be in Calvary Cemetery. Mr. Cleary died Wednesday of a heart attack in the Jersey City Medical Center at the age of 67.: He WAS stricken In Jersey City while returning "to his home in Interlaken, N. from a Christmas party at the home of a daughter, Mrs.

Catherine Roberts, in Manhattan. Mr. Cleary was born in Richmond, and came to New York as a child with his family. He attended St. Francis Xavier School and Columbia University and to work for Western Electric then Company in the '90s.

He retired in 1911. An organist, Mr. Cleary founded one of the first boys' choirs in the city at St. Finbar's R. C.

Church in Brooklyn. He is survived, besides his daughter, by his wife, Mrs. Mary Cleary, and two sons, Francis X. Jr. and W.

Douglas Cleary, director of public relations of the Hotel Commodore. Fred R. Davis Schenectady, Dec. 27 -Fred R. Davis, 64, one of the founders of the Audit Bureau of Circulation, and advertising space buyer for the General Electric Company, died last night.

DEATHS DEATHS He formerly was active in the Manhasset Club, the Fox Hills Golf Club and the Lido Club. A native of Brooklyn, where he was born Feb. 23, 1879, Mr. Moran was a son of the late Michael and Margaret Moran. He began his business career in the Marine Department of the Baltimore Ohio Railroad and joined the Moran organization in 1904.

He is survived by his widow, Elizabeth Williams Moran, and his brother, Eugene F. Moran, who is chairman of the board of the Moran firm. Mr. Moran had lived for many years on the Park Slope, and 1 in recent years lived at 1088 Park Manhattan. The funeral will be held Monday from the home of his brother law, J.

Frank Belford, Garfield Place, with a solemn mass of requiem at 11 a.m. in the R. C. Church of the Nativity, Classon Ave. and Madison St.

Fall Down Flight of Steps Kills Borough Woman, 83 Miss Helen Greenidge, 83, eldest of four unmarried sisters who shared a four -room apartment on the third floor of 157 Prospect Place, was killed yesterday in a fall down a flight of stairs. Miss Greenidge stumblde at the head of the stairs and suffered a skull fracture. She was dead when an ambulance surgeon from Jewish Hospital arrived. Surviving are the Misses Marian, Kathleen and Laura' Greenidge.

Brennan, prominent attorney and brother of Supreme Court Justice Philip A. Brennan, in the Queen of All Saints R. C. Church, Lafayette and Vanderbilt Aves. Mr.

Brennan, who died Monday in St. Peter's Hospital following a long illness, was 71. More than 200 persons, including 13 past exalted rulers, attended fraternal services sponsored by the Brooklyn Lodge, 22, B. P. O.

held last night at the Fairchild Chapel, 86 Lefferts Place. The Rev. Raymond Dundon, assistant pastor of the Queen of All Saints R. C. Church, was the celebrant at this morning's mass.

Others who officiated were the Rev. Joseph T. Lamb as deacon and the Rev. Charles Boyd as sub deacon. Mr.

Brennan is survived by his widow, Martha J. Brennan; a son, Thomas J. Brennan Jr. of Hempstead: two brothers, Justice Brennan and Matthew F. Brennan, and three grandsons.

Interment was in the Holy Cross Cemetery. For many years Mr. Brennan had been actively identified with Brooklyn fraternal and communal life. He was a trustee of Brooklyn Lodge, a charter member and former commodore of the Bay Head Yacht Club and a member of the Society of Old Brooklynites, the Crescent Athletic Club and Champion Council, Royal Arcanum. Mrs.

Turney, 90, Dies Following Fall Special to the Brooklyn Eagle: Hempstead, Dec. 27-Mrs. Frances Turney, 90, of 49 Pennsylvania a resident of this village for 16 years, died Wednesday night in Nassau Hospital, Mineola, of injuries received a week ago from a fall downstairs in her home. She was the widow of Thomas J. Turney who died several years ago.

Despite her advanced age Mrs. Turney had remained active until the accident, taking daily walks from her residence to the village center. On her 90th birthday, last May 6, Mrs. Turney was interviewed by reporters and discussed incidents of the Civil War. She was a native of Paris, and lived there during the war.

Mrs. Turney made her home here with a daughter, Mrs. Emerson Strong. She also leaves two sons, James W. and Thomas both living in Illinois; six grandchildren and four great grandchildren.

Ricardo Caimmi Balogna, Italy, Dec. 27 (U.P) -Riccardo Caimmi, 70, actor who had toured the principal stages of the world with the late Eleanora Duse, died yesterday. While in the United States with Duse, Caimmi left the stage to open an elocution school, which he conducted for some years. 27, 1940 13 ALFRED KOTTMILLER, 60; NOTED HORTICULTURIST Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Roslyn, Dec. 27-Alfred Kottmiller, noted horticulturist and treasurer of the International Flower Show Committee for the last 25 years, died yesterday at his home on Searingtown Road near here, following a heart attack, He was 60. Mr. Kottmiller won many prizes for his unusual designs in flower shows. He, was a member of Hortus, which presented the Gardens on Parade exposition at the World's Fair for two seasons.

Rhoades of Mount Vernon, founder and retired president of the R. W.

Rhoades Metaline Company, Long Island City, left more than $45,000 to institutions connected with the Methodist Church under the terms of his will. It was filed for probate with Surrogate Charles D. Millard here yesterday. Eleven relatives and friends also received individual bequests aggregating more than $66,000. The will gives all of Mr.

Rhoades' real estate and the residuary estate of more than $10,000 to the Methodist Hospital of Brooklyn to establish "the Richard W. and Martha C. Rhoades Foundation" in memory of the testator and his late wife. The following beneficiaries also were named: New York East Annual Conference of the Methodist Church, First Methodist Church, Jamaica, First Methodist Church, Mount Vernon, $5,000, Brooklyn and Long Island Church Society of the Methodist Church, Brooklyn, Board of Foreign Missions of the Methodist Church, $5,000, and Board of Home Missions and Church Extension of the Methodist Church, $5.000. Bequests of $5,000 each were made to the American Red Cross and Hampton Institute, Hampton, Va.

Mrs. Harry Peyser Funeral Rites Held Funeral services for Mrs. Betty A. Peyser, wife of Harry M. Peyser, chief estate tax attorney, and for many years active in charitable and community affairs, were held today at Union Temple, 17 Eastern way.

Interment followed in Washington Cemetery. Mrs. Peyser, who was widely known as a concert singer, died Tuesday in Long Island College Hospital after a long illness. She was 45. Dr.

Kehoe James Francis Kehoe, assistant foreman of delivery for the New York World Telegram, died Wednesday night at his home, 91- 19 86th Woodhaven. He was 64. Mr. Kehoe in the circulation departments of New York newspapers for 0 years. that attracted considerable attention.

Another design acclaimed was a Japanese garden in the 1931 show. Born in Germany, he studied horticulture in Paris and London and then came to this country in 1913. He was the proprietor of two flower shops, one in the Hotel Roosevelt and the other in the Ritz-Carlton Hotel, Manhattan. He also maintained conservatory and a greenhouse near his home here. He is survived by his wife, Mrs.

Albert J. Keene, 64, Jamaica Attorney Employed 35 Years By Lawyer's Title Corp. Albert James Keene, an attorney, of 195 Weirfield who was associated with the Jamaica office of the Lawyer's Title Corporation, died yesterday at his home after brief illness, He was 64. Mr. Keene had been with the title concern for 35 years, joining 1t on March 10, 1905, and was attached to the Brooklyn office before he went to the Jamaica office a few years ago.

He was an expert title reader. A lifelong resident of Brooklyn, he was graduated from New York University Law School in 1900. Surviving are his widow, Susan E. Keene; a daughter, Margaret Helen, and three sisters, Mrs. Lola Robinson, Mrs.

Final Rites Held For Mrs. Tatum Special to the Brooklyn Eagle: Long Beach, Dec. 27-Funeral services were held in the People's Church here yesterday for Mrs. Edna A. Tatum, 48, founder of Long Beach Lodge, Order of Eastern Star; its first matron and for many years district deputy for the order in Nassau County.

He also served on Britain's delegations to the World War reparations commission, and to the Hague conferences of 1929 and 1930.
