U. Camera Dies; Language Teacher Brooklyn College Faculty Secretary Succumbs in New Orleans at 59 Prof. A. U. N.

Camera, head of the department of romance languages and secretary of the faculty of Brooklyn College since the institution was founded in 1930, died yesterday in New Orleans while on a vacation trip, according to word received here. He was 59 and lived at Dahill Road. Professor Camera had been staying at the Monteleone Hotel. An Associated Press dispatch from New Orleans said he became ill at the hotel early yesterday and died after being taken to a hospital. Dr.

A. F. Brock, assistant coroner of Orleans Parish, was quoted as attributing the professor's death to an Intestinal obstruction and localized peritonitis. A native ot Italy, Professor Camera came to this country at an early age and was graduated from New York University in 1900. He received an M.

A. degree from Columbia University in 1901 and a Ph. D. degree from New York University in 1912. Wrote Several Books After heading the Department of Romance Languages at the old Townsend Harris Hall, affiliated with the College of the City of New York, Professor Oamera became a member of the college faculty, and was transferred to the Brooklyn branch when it was opened in 1926.

When this branch became a separate college lour years later he remained on its staff. He was a member of many faculty committees. May, in her last years living in obscurity as a WPA bookkeeper, died yesterday in the arms of her retired soldier husband.

Capt. John A. Smuts, in a modest Back Bay apartment. Doctors said a heart attack caused her death. May was born in Bethlehem, 1869, and went on the stage when she was 18.

She quickly attained the status of a star in New York, and went to Europe to continue her stage successes. Married Lord Hope In London she met and married Lord Hope, and twice wore the famous family diamond. Tradition had it that ill luck came to those who wore the taluish colored and valuable stone, but May laughed at its baleful reputation. A couple of years ago she said, "Well, I don't know." Her' entrance into British society was sponsored by the then Prince of Wales, later King Edward VII. His photograph, inscribed "To May, 1898, Edward was one of her most cherished possessions in later days.

But May tired of her royal friends, and in 1901 ran ttway with Capt, Bradlee Putnam Strong of New York. They were married later, after Ixrd Hope had obtained a divorce. A second divorce ended the romance with Strong. Her Only 'Great I-ove Then in 1914 May married Capt. Smuts and only recently she told friends tht? was "my only great love." From then on.
