Charles Cross The Full Gospel Church was organized June 12,1934, as an independent Pentecostal church, and was given the name "Full Gosrel Taberr nacle " Brother Spence was the moderator of the meeting. At this meeting the congregation appointed George Williams, P. W. Lemons and John Cherry as trustees of the church, and Katie Boswell as church secretary- Ireasurer. For severel months prior to this time the congregation worshipped in various homes. Feeling the need of a permanent place to worship, they voted to build a church as soon as possible. On July 2 1934, the congregation elected Rev. W. C. Vanbibber as its first pastor, and appointed George Williams, P. W. Lemons and Pete Tranthom to the building committee. The group agreed to accept members on the second and third of July, 1934 for the purchase of establishing the "Charter Membership" records. The'following 14 persons were accepted for membership on the second of July, 1934: Mrs Katie Boswell, Mrs. N. Baker, Mrs. Lue Bell Cambern, Mrs. Mary Drake, P. W. Lemons Mrs. P. W. Lemons, Mrs. Alma Reiner, Mrs. Audie Travis Pete Trantham, George Williams, Mrs. Annie Mae Williams, Miss Mamie Perry, Joe Eddie Rodgers and Mrs. Sarah Rodgers. On July 3 1934, the following 10 persons were accepted for membership' Mrs Kate Cherry, Mrs. Mattie L, Campbell, Mrs. Willie Hedge, Miss' Ollie Stalcup, N. W. Thantham, Ted Holland, Mrs. Clara Holland, W C VanBlbber, Mrs. Gertie VanBlbber and Miss Nadine VanBibber. These members making a total of twenty-four charter members. The blessings 'of the Lord were many in those hard days of the '30s. Even though there was very little money available, the members showed great faith and a fervent desire to build a church in which to worship. It seems that everyone took and active part in the work. Several of the men went to the woods and cut timber and hauled it to Walker s saw mill to be cut into lumber, and others helped in the construction and painting of the building. Such a wonderful spirit of unity and cooperation prevailed among the people, that in a very few months the church building wag completed. The new church was dedicated in November, 1934, and in 1S39 the church joined the Pentecostal Church of God, of America, Inc. with international headquarters in Joplin, Mo. The 1942 the church built educational rooms under the ministry of Rev. Clifford Thacker. In 1949, a parsonage at 1511 W. Ash was purchased during the ministry of Rev. E. T. Kelly. In 1953 under the ministry of Rev. Jack Dudash, the interior walls al the church were paneled with ponderosa pine, new ceiling tile installed, in the auditorium, two restrooms and a nursery furnished. In 1954, durng the tenure of Rev. M. D. Mabry, the church bought a new piano and organ. In 1908 "stone kote" was added to the exterior of the church building during the pastorate of Rev. A. D. Tabor. In 1961, during the ministry of Rev. F. A. Hesselbien a baptistry was installed and new pews purchased. In the same year the name was changed from Full Gospel Tabernacle to Full Gospel Church. In 1963 a new foundation was installed, vinyl tile floors, and central heat and air-conditioning. Rev, Virgil Ragan was pastor. The spritual growth has been greater than can be indicated here, for many hundred souls have been won to Christ during the past 34 years, and 14 ministers, 2 missionaries and a host of Christian witnesses have gone out from the church to many parts of the world, including Guam, Vietnam and Labrador.
