for James B. French, manager of the Ace Film Laboratory and a pioneer in the establishment of the old Vitagraph Studio at Locust Ave. and E. 14th where the Ace laboratory is now located. Mr.

French, who was 70 last April, died Friday of a heart attack in the Erie Railroad Terminal in Jersey City while on his way to Manhattan from his Summer home in West Milford. N. J. A resident of Brooklyn most of his life, he had lived at 1900 Albemarle Road until he went to West Milford about May 1. During a varied and colorful career, Mr.

French was well known for a number of years as a motorcycle racer. He had competed at the old Brighton Beach Motordrome, and rode his last race at the age of 51 at the old Sheepshead Bay Speedway, placing third. Appeared in Vaudeville Born in England, Mr. French came to America as a boy, and for a time was in the contracting business with a brother in Canada. Later he came to the United States.

The last contracting job he worked on was the old Waldorf -Astoria Hotel. From contracting Mr. French turned to vaudeville, and for some time did a sleight-of-hand act, appearing with the Great Herman, and with the magician's wife after Herman died. While on the stage he met and became associated with A. E.

Smith, and with him successfully launched the Vitagraph plant in Flatbush. Surviving are his widow, Mrs. Lillian M. French; two daughters. Mrs.

T. J. Bustard of Minneapolis and Miss Elsie M. French, and a son. Herbert H.

French. who is associated with the film laboratory. The services will be conducted at the Fairchild Chapel. 86 Lefferts Place, by the Rev. Dr.

who died suddenly Wednesday, will be buried this afternoon at 2 o'clock in Green- Wood Cemetery. She was the of Alfred L. Schnackenberg. Funeral services were held last night at her home, 575 3d St. Born in Brooklyn, Mrs.

Schnackenberg was the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Francis G. Scheu and the granddaughter of Mrs. Hattie and the late William J.

Sayers. She was a graduate of Manual Training High School, where she was a member of Rho Sigma Phi sorority, and was graduated from the fashion and teachers training classes at Pratt Institute in 1935. At Pratt she was a member of Delta Pi Alpha sorority. Rites Tomorrow Prominent Flatbush Build. er, Civic Worker, Realty Man, Banke Was 53 Religious and Masonic funeral services will be held tomorrow at 8:30 p.m. at his home, 3621 Glenwood Road, for August W. Schmidt prominent Flatbush builder, civic worker, real estate man and banker, who died suddenly of a stroke Friday night. He was 53.

The religious service will be conducted by the Rev. Luther D. Gable, pastor of St. Stephen's Evangelical Lutheran Church, who is Mr. Schmidt's brother-in-law.

Burial will be in the family plot in Green- -Wood Cemetery, Mr. Schmidt's civic and business interests were numerous. For two terms he was president of the Flatbush Chamber of Commerce and after the expiration of his second term in March, 1931, he continued to serve as a director and chairman of the Chamber's annual dinner each year. a He was a past Big Chief and 1 former chairman of the board of Governors of the 12:45 Club and a director of the Flatbush Boys Club. Embarking in business for himself as head of the Standard Cement Block Company, which he later conducted until a few years ago under his own name at 2282 Flatbush Mr.

Schmidt continually widened his business activities. Business Connections Rites Tomorrow For Onny Melmo The funeral of Miss Onny Melmo, for 68 years a domestic with the family of Redmond Keresey of Lawrence, will be held tomorrow from the home of her nephew, Edward J. McColgan, 208 E. 63d Manhattan, where she died Friday of a heart ailment while 011 a visit. She was 88.

Miss Melmo believed that her long period in the employ of the Keresey family had established a record of some kind for Long Island and perhaps for the entire State. Born in County Mayo, Ireland, she went to Lawrence with Kereseys in 1888, and cared for the five children in the family when they were infants. Nephews and nieces are the closest survivors. A solemn requiem mass at 11 a.m. in St.

Vincent Ferrer'3 R. C. Church, 66th St. and Lexington Manhattan, will be lowed by burial in Holy Cross Cemetery. Mrs.

F. Rogers, 73, Suffolk Resident Riverhead. June 4-Mrs. Frances Rogers, 73. widow of the late Byron Rogers, who was for many years receiver of taxes of Riverhead Town, died today abl her home, 25 Prospect Place, here.

Mrs. Rogers was prominent in local church, social and civic affairs, and before her marriage was a teacher in the Riverhead and Greenport public schools. Surviving is one son, Neal Rogers of Dumont, N. J. The Rev.

James Fraser, pastor of First Congregational Church of Riverhead, will conduct. funeral services in the Rogers home Monday afternoon at 2:30 o'clock. Burial will be in Riverhead Cemetery. the church as Mons. John L. Belford, pastor, who officiated at Mr. Holahan's marriage more than two decades ago, celebrated the solemn high requiem mass. Burial was in Holy Cross Cemetery, Ill Several Months Mr.

Holahan, a past president of the St. Patrick Society and the Emerald Association, died Wednesday at the age of 50 in his home, 1111 Albemarle Road, after several months' illness. Monsignor Belford was assisted by the Rev. Lawrence H. Bracken, chaplain of the Police Department, in which Mr.

Holahan's father was formerly Borough Inspector, and by the Rev. Joseph A. Murray, pastor of St. Benedict's Church, Fulton St. and Ralph a lifelong friend.

Bishop Molloy, seated in the sanctuary, was flanked by Mons. George A. Metzger. pastor of St. Thomas' Church, Woodhaven, and Mons.

Jerome J. Reddy, pastor of the Church of St. Francis de Sales, Belle Harbor. In his crimson robes, the bishop stood beside the casket, which was blanketed with talisman roses, and pronounced the final blessing. Eulogizes Friend Before the blessing.

Monsignor Belford. departing, he said, from his usual custom, ascended the pulpit to give a brief eulogy of the man he placed "among those men and women who have led unusual lives, whose lives have been an inspiration not only to a circle of friends but to a whole community." He declared that the piety of the dead man should stand as a "superior consolation to words lips can frame or pens inscribe." and concluded. "His charities were numerous, his charities were unobtrusive. his charities were concealed as far as possible." The casket was then carried out in a chilly drizzle, followed by members of the family and close friends. There were four cars of flowers in the cortege.

Relatives Present Among those in the funeral procession were the widow, the former Frances Emily Obernier. and the children, George Frank, Joan and Joseph: Mrs. Holahan's father, Frank Obernier: Mr. Holahan's father, a sister, Marie his brothers, Dr. Howard Edward C.

and Gordon, and Mr. Holahan's law partner, Albert Hutton, with whom he had offices at 32 Court St. A delegation of boys from St. John's Home and girls from St. Joseph's Orphan Asylum attended the services.

Born in Williamsburg in 1884, he was the son of a founder of the old Germania Realty Company, which played a large part in the development of the Vanderveer Park section of Flatbush. concern is now known as the Ridgewood Park Realty Company. Graduated from Public School 90. still located at Church and Bedford Mr. Schmidt studied architectural and at Cooper Union.

His first job was mechanical drawing three years for, with the Hartford Carpet Corporation in Manhattan, where he was Catholic Lawyers Guild of which Mr. Holahan was a co-founder. Supreme Court Justice Philip A. Brennan. president of the board of St.

He was associated with the Mutual Life Insurance Company of New York for many years, having joined that concern as a boy. Born in Union Hill.

N. Mr. Newcomb had lived in Brooklyn for practically of his life. Surviving are his widow. Mrs.

Edna C. Newcomb: a daughter, Doris H. Newcomb, and his mother, Mrs. Louise A. Newcomb.

The services will be conducted at the Fairchild Chapel, 86 Lefferts Place, by the Rev. can M. Genns of St. Thomas Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Cypress Hills Abbey.
