Helped Launch Institution in 3 Rented Rooms In 1888-Active in Other Charities-Was 77 Miss Emily Sibley Wood, 77, one of the two co-founders of the Brooklyn Young Women's Christian Association and active supporter of many philanthropic causes, died yesterday in her home, 827 St. Mark's after a short illness. Miss Wood, who as a young woman became interested in other young women of her community, together with the late Mrs.

He had been in the postal service for 42 years and was the husband of the late Elizabeth O'Keefe. Surviving are nene children, Sister Assumpta Maria, O. S. Florence, Grace, Anna, Irene, Joseph, Edward, Harold and Frank; a brother, the Rt. Rev.

Mons. Joseph S. O'Keefe of Akron, Ohio, and two sisters, Mrs. Joseph Murphy and Mrs. Anna Barret.

The funeral will be held from the home Wednesday with a solemn mass of requiem at 9:30 a.m. in St. Sylvester's R. C. Church.

The mass will be offered by Monsignor O'Keefe. Burial will be in St. John's Cemetery. the Brooklyn Eye and Ear Hospital and the Children's Aid Society. She was active in church a affairs and was a member of the Tompkins Avenue Congregational Church.

She was born in Brooklyn and attended the Packer Collegiate Institute and Smith College. She is survived by a sister, Mrs. Mabel Wood Hill, and three brothers, Howard O. Wood, Willis Delano Wood, and Cornelius D. Wood.

Funeral services, which will be private, will be held tomorrow at 2 p.m, in the home. Father James Smyth Founded St. Anselm's Church, Bay Ridge Pastor Came to Brooklyn 50 Years Ago -Was Well-Known, Beloved Figure in Community The Rev. James Smyth, Church, 4th Ave. and 83d suddenly Sunday morning, rectory at 349 83d St. Father Smyth, who was came to Brooklyn nearly 50 a seminary in Montreal, Canada.

In 1912 he founded the parish of St. Agatha at 47th St. and 7th Ave. At that time he was senior curate at the R. C.

Church of St. Michael. He later was appointed to the pastorate of the R. C. Church of St.

Thomas Aquinas at 4th Ave. and 9th St. In 1922, he founded the parish of which he was pastor at the time of his death, Beloved Figure Father Smyth was a well known and beloved figure in Bay Ridge. He was interested not only in religious matters of the district but in the civic welfare of the locality as well. He was at one time a curate at the R.

Unit Walter J. Trudden, 51, former Assistant United States Attorney in Brooklyn and son of the late Water Register Michael J. Trudden of Kings County, died Sunday in Liberty, N. after an illness of nearly eight years. Born in Kellam, Mr.

Trudden was graduated from City College in 1911 and from Fordham University in 1914. For many years he practiced law in this borough. He was a past Grand Knight of the Long Island Council, Knights of Columbus. He became ill in 1932 and went to Liberty. The funeral will be held tomorrow at 9:30 a.m.

Church of the Presentation in Jamaica for William J. Gallagher, a former deputy sheriff in Manhattan, who died Sunday at his home, 85-62 160th Jamaica. Mr. Gallagher, who was active for many years in Democratic affairs in Manhattan, was a district captain in the 1st A. D.

and a member of the Huron Club. He was appointed a deputy sheriff upon the election of Alfred E. Smith to the post of Sheriff of New York County and served until three and one-half years ago. Mr. Gallagher is survived by a sister, Mrs.

Solomons, Nassau Dentist, 51 Rockville Centre, March 26-Dr. Joseph R. Solomons, 51, a practicing dentist for more than 25 years, died yesterday of heart disease in his home here. Dr. Solomons, whose father and grandfather were dentists, was a graduate of the Dental College of the University of Pennsylvania.

His offices were located at 1819 Broadway, Manhattan. He was a World War veteran. He is survived by his mother and two sisters, Mrs. Isaac Harby and Mrs. R.

H. Allen. DR. THOMAS ADAMS, 68, DRAFTED REGIONAL PLAN London. March 25 (U.P.) Dr.

Thomas Adams, 68, architect and planning authority, who was general director of a regional plan for New York City in 1929, died yesterday in Sussex. Dr. Adams taught community planning at Harvard University and lectured on civic design at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. Dr. Adams was called to this city in 1923 for the drafting of the original Regional Plan of New York and Its Environs.

This project, which cost $1,250,000, was financed by the Russell Sage Foundation and presented to the governments of the metropolitan area in 1931. He was general director of plans and surveys the preparation of the project, which plotted the development of a metropolitan area of 5,000 square miles and spent eight years in this task with the aid of a staff. He regarded the plan as his chief life work. Dr. Adams was born in Edinburgh, Scotland, and started his career in city planning as manager of the first garden city in England.

In 1914 he founded was the first president of the British Town Planning Institute, In 1921 he was named a lecturer on civic designing of the' Massachusetts Institute of Technology. FIREMAN CRITICALLY HURT IN FALL UNDER TRUCK Fireman Harry Maloney, 31, of 2619 Glenwood Road, attached to Engine Company 246, 2731 E. 23d St. is in Coney Island Hospital today in a critical condition following an accident last night when the company's truck ran over him after he had lost his grip and fallen to the street. The truck was on its way to a grass fire at Avenue and 23d St.

Patrolman James H. Valentine, 40, died yesterday in Flushing Hospital of a fractured skull suffered Saturday when his automobile and another car collided at Cross Island Boulevard and 150th Whitestone. Rhinelander Estate Divided Among Kin Will Cites Depression In Small Gifts to Servants Mineola, March 26-The will of Major Philip Rhinelander, descendant of one of New York's oldest families, who' died in Long Beach Hospital on March 18, was filed with Surrogate Leon D. Howell here today. It decides the bulk of a considable estate among two granddaughters and a daughter, Adelaide Kip Rhinelander Thomas of 995 5th Manhattan, who receives half the residuary estate as well as jewelry and other personal property.

Specific bequests of $500 each are left ot six former employes and $300 to John Hilsbos of 560 Lincoln Place, Brooklyn. As to them the will states: "I regret that I am not able to make greater provision for the above, who have served me faithfully in various ways during my lifetime, but owing to the great financial depression I feel that in justice to those who have claims upon me by birth I cannot make the gifts more than as above set forth." Six $2,000 Annuities To six other persons Major Rhinelander left a joint life annuity of $2.000, which is to revert to the residuary estate upon the death of the last survivor of the six. The granddaughters, Phyllis M. Rhinelander, 18, and Helen M. Rhinelander, 13, daughters of the late Philip Kip Rhinelander, receive a fourth of the residuary estate each until they reach the age of 25, when the principal becomes theirs outright.

A petition filed with the will gives the values of the estate merely as "over $20,000" in real estate and "over $20,000" in personal property. Major Rhinelander was the father of the late Leonard Kip Rhinelander, whose marriage and divorce of Alice Jones, colored, caused a sensation in the 1920's. The will was dated June 27, 1939. Helen E. Rhinelander of 1220 Park Manhattan, a daughter-inlaw, and Harry Civiletti of Mount Vernon, described as a friend, are named executors and trustees.

JOSEPH W. KING, 49, PHELPS-DODGE OFFICIAL Paterson, N. March 26 (P)-- Joseph W. King, 49, general traffic manager of the PhelpsDodge Copper Products Corporation, with main offices in New York City, died last night in his home. He was stricken with pneumonia a week ago, shortly after completing a country-wide tour inspecting company properties.

His mother, Mrs. Wallace R. King of Paterson, died a week ago. A native of Paterson, King was a City Alderman for 10 years, retiring in 1936 after aiding in formulation of the city's liquor code. He had been with Phelps-Dodge for more than 20 years.

King is survived by his widow, Isabelle; a son, Warren, and his father, Wallace R. Clyde C. Lister Clyde C. Lister, for a quarter of a century a resident of Brooklyn and for nearly 20 years a teacher of Penmanship and other subjects at Maxwell Teachers Training College, formerly located on Park Place, near Nostrand died at his home in Millersburg, Ohio, on March 16. it was learned here today.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Alberta Lister. Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Bay Shore, March 26-Funeral services will be conducted tomorrow at 2 p.m. for Edmund J. Robbins, retired veterinarian who was known in this vicinity as a fancier of trotting horses.

He died Sunday night of a heart attack in his home on Shore Lane at the age of 66. Dr. Robbins attained some prominence among horsemen when raised and trained two famous trotters. Joy Lincoln, who was later sold to a syndicate in Italy, and Esther who was shipped to Eng- land. Both horses broke track records.

He also founded a small animal hospital in this hamlet which was sold to the present owner, Dr. Charles T. Fake, when Dr. Robbins retired about ten years ago. Surviving are his widow.

Mrs. Jennie Carpenter Rob bins; a brother, William H. Robbins, local attorney, and a grandson. Services will be conducted in the home by the Rev. William R.

Watson, rector of St. Peter's Episcopal Church. Burial will be in Oakwood Cemetery. Alfredo Selgas, 75, William Weldon, Tobacco Merchant Auto Crash Victim Alfredo Selgas, 75, a tobacco merchant in Brooklyn for more than 40 years, died in his home, 112 McDonough yesterday. Born in Spain, Mr.

Selgas came to the United States more than 50 years ago. He was the head of Selgas of 128 Water St. He was treasurer of the Spanish Chamber of Commerce, a member of the Brooklyn Chamber of Commerce and a member of Lodge 22, Elks. A solemn mass of requiem will be celebrated in Our Lady of Victory R. C.

Church on Thursday. Interment will be in St. John's Cemetery. Mr. Selgas is survived by three daughters, Sister Mary Elvira, Mrs.

Weldon, 59, a retired carpenter of 637 Decatur died yesterday in the Nassau-Suffolk Hospital. Hillyer, 72, wife of J. Blake Hillyer, retired teacher of physical education in the public schools of the city, died in her home, 145 Henry today. Born in Philadelphia, Mrs. Hillyer came to Brooklyn when a young girl and lived in the borough most of her life with the exception of a few years spent on Staten Island. She was active in church work and was a member of St.

Y. Sir Richard Squires St. John's, N. March 26 (U.P)- Sir Richard Squires, 60, a master of the Supreme Court of Newfoundland and twice Prime Minister, died early today. He had been ill six months.

Sir Richard was knighted in 1921. Former Liberal leader, he had held several Cabinet posts. In 1921 he visited Washington and New York in connection with Newfoundland -American trade. Michael J. Westerfield was treated for lacerations of the nose. Mrs. Westerfield suffered compound fractures of both ankles and the son suffered severe lacerations of the face.
