17, 1942 Churches to Observe Salvation Army Day Ranking Officers of Group Will Speak In Many Borough Pulpits Tomorrow Observation of "Salvation Army Day" in Brooklyn churches tomorrow will bring to the borough a number of oficers of the Army, of varying ranks in the metropolitan current events and literature. It was organized in November, 1890, and its first moderator was the late Monsignor Flannery, and was known then as the Fenelon Reading Circle. Its meetings for many years were held at the old Pouch Mansion on Clinton Ave. until the opening of the Helen McCormick Memorial. For Parish School Fund A group of talented young men and women of the parish of St.

The Diocesan Office of the Confraternity yesterday announced its plans for the Teachers' Institute for this year. The Institute was organized five years ago to prepare men and women to teach religion to children. The course is conducted for fifteen weeks and classes are held once a week and each class lasts for one hour and a half. The subjects which are taught are "Christian Doctrine for the Teacher" and "Methods of Teaching Religion." Sponsors Creative Action Programs H. D.

Gibson, General Chairman New Series Starts Tomorrow The New York Avenue Methodist Church. 121 New York the Rev. Robert C. Carlson, pastor, will start tomorrow a second series of Creative Action Programs. They will be held on four consecutive Sunday evenings.

For its evening service the 'Life' Is Subject Of Lesson-Sermon "Life" is the subject of the lesson-sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, Jan. 18. The Golden Text is: "How is thy loving kindness, 0 God For with thee is the fountain of life" (Psalms 36: 7, 9).

Among the citations which comprise the lesson-sermon is the following from the Bible: "And, behold, one came and said unto him, Good Master, what good thing shall 1 do, that I may have eternal life? And he said unto him, Whycallest thou me good? there is none good but one, that is, God; but if thou wilt enter into life, keep the commandments" (Matthew 19: 16, 17). The lesson-sermon also includes the fallowing selections from the evenings of Feb. 23 and 24, under the auspices of the Sodality of Our Lady of the parish. The proceeds of the affair will be applied to the parish school fund. The director of the show is the Rev.

Leo Goggin, who is also spirtual director of the sodality. Monsignor Sheen to Speak The Rt, Rev. Mons. Fulton J. Sheen, of the Catholic University of America will speak tomorrow afternon at 3:30 p.m.

R. C. Carlson will conduct the devotional period, which will be followed with an address by Dr. C. Douglas Sawyer of the Methodist Hospital staff.

His subject will be "The Greatest Recent Discovery in Medicine." The forum speaker on Jan. 25 will be Dr. Charles W. Iglehart, long a resident of Japan, discussing "Japan: Problem and Challenge."
