Its motive worthy, and Charles Rugglcs and Fred MacMurray are credible examples of conscientious, high-minded gentlemen of the press, but where "Exclusive" errs i.s In choosing a sensational and fantastic of incidents to prove iu point. The scene Is Mountain City, where the town's respectable newspaper. The World, has been printing vehement editorials against Charles Gillette, racketeer, who is being tried for fraud. But Gillette is acquitted by a fixed jury, and buys a rival paper. The Sentinel, offering Tod Swain 'Mr.

Ruggles) and Ralph Houston (Mr. MacMurray), underpaid employes of The World, tempting salaries to work for him. When Vina Swain (Frances Farmer), Tod's daughter and Ralph's fiancee, learns that they have refused, she gets a job with The Sentinel herself. With her help. Gillette contrives several scandals to ruin the town's most influential citizens, including the mayoralty candidate, who commits suicide in Vina's presence.

Then, when Vina begins to suspect. Gillette's dirty methods, she is spirited out of town Her father goes after her and is mortally wounded. Though Mr. Ruggles dies a mar tyr to the rause of hone.st journalism, he manages to inject some of his likable comedy Into the proceed-1 mgs before that tragedy occurs. There's some particularly funny business about an icebox, which, while it has nothing to do with the plot, furnishes the most entertaining in "King Solomon's Mines," based on one of the H.

Rider Haggard fantasies and produced by Gaumont-Bntish. takes Cedric Hardwicke, Paul Robeson, Roland Young, John Locier and Anna Lee on a long safari across Africa to discover the fabulous treasure trove of King Solomon. Though the Haggard -tones should make excellenf movie material, this doe doesn't quite come oft. Mr. Robeson is in fine voice and lie technicians exhibit their prowess by a volcanic eruption which as violent as anything Hollywood ever conceived.

The actors, all of whom have proved their worth cm previous occasions, don't do very much here. J. W. PfCri RI.S AS HE REALLY IS!
