The feat was accomplished on the short seventh hole, and Peyton Hough and BUI Smith witnessed the SVL To Provide Fans Insurance Salinas Valley baseball league managers voted to protect patrons of games with liability insurance at their meeting held in Greenfield last night.

Protection works two ways: it covers ball clubs from liability in event a fan is injured and provides insurance for the spectators. Ed Stubblefield, Soledad Legion pilot resigned because his Job will not permit him to be at all games and Duane Zahn, pitcher of the club, was selected to replace him. Circuit voted to play all games rained out on opening day, April 11, on May 30 and the annual North-South benefit tilt will be staged hero in Salinas May 31, Commissioner James Butler Races Offer Attraction Here Sunday Racing at the Salinas Valley stadium tomorrow Is destined to be the most exciting program brought to this area since the opening, according to Promoter Harry Crocker. There are nine scheduled contests, and two special races set for the oval, with time trials getting underway at I p.m. Charley Curryer of Oakland, West Coast promoter of Indianapolis-type racing car competition, will bring two of these powerful speed machines to the Salinas track Sunday for a race before local fans.

One of the racers is the famous Hisso Special, formerly owned by 1946 and 1947 big car California champion Baylias Leverett; and the other is a double overhead Hal, capable of tremendous bursts of speed nl the straight-a-way. Walking Dead Driving the Hal will be Buck Whltmer, nationally known for his racing exploits. On one occasion, Whltmer was badly Injured In a racing car pileup, and was pronounced dead li) the hospital where he was removed following the collision. The body was taken to the morgue and remained there several hours before a friend discovered a faint heartbeat and called doctors. He resumed racing a few months after recovery.

Lennie Low will drive the Hisso Special, and the two car are planning to race against the roaring roadster of Bob Sweikert, winner of five trophy dashes in the last two weeks. Much discussion has been held between owners and exponents of the two types of racers, end this race should settle the question on a three-eights of a mile layout, Crocker stated. Kolb vs Garland Another race that has grown out of considerable controversy is the match between Don Kolb in No. 90, winner of last Sundays 35-lap main event, and Norman Garland in No. 23, the driver that held the first place position over the pack for 34 laps, only to be waved out before the finish when his radiator developed a leak.

This contest is going to be a $100 winner-take-all heat, and enthusiasm is mounting among backers. More than 20 other cars are contracted for the Sunday feature, Harry Crocker announced. There are many new drivers becoming members of the roadsters association, and they will be here tomorrow competing for ths winners purses. Moose won their first league game last Sunday when they upset Spreckels and will be out to make it two in a row. Greenfield and King City are tied for aecond place in the S.V.L.

Unbeaten until laat Sunday, Spreckels will hit th road tomorrow and play the King City VFW ball club on the latters diamond at 2 p.m. Ric Echenique will pitch for the home outfit, Red Stangh-linl or Hoopman doing the slab work for the travelers, with Hugo Pis catching. Spreckels seeks to climb back into the league lead at the expense of the Veterans, while the latter nine has won one tilt in three starts. CastroviUe at San Ardo San Ardo club jumps out of the frying pan Into the fire tomorrow at 2 p.m. on their own diamond when they open against the red-hot CastroviUe Merchants.

Merchants are riding the crest of a two game winning streak and are aiming to stay at the top of the league. Golden Dragons, who lost their first Salinas Valley league game Sunday, will be out to knock off last years winner, the Soledad Legion, in a game at Gonzales starting at 2 p.m. tomorrow. If the Dragons can upset the Legion on their home field they will be doing what only on club could do laat season. So far thia season Soledad has won the only game they have played at home.

Manager Stubblefield will start Duane Zahn on th rubber for the home town club. Manager Pradia will start Davis or Jack-son. CCAL BASEBALL STANDINGS next two starts against loop opponents, taking King City in 14 Innings and Hollister last week. Locals will coma up with Earl Escalante on the hill, Neil Clifford catching. Escalante Is the hardest hitting chucker in the league.

Monterey ended their two-tilt losing streak Sunday when they knocked off Gonzales 4-3 In 10 innings. Their revival may make things rough for the home town-ers Johnny Canepa or Johnny Baptist will pitch for Clarence Truesdell'a aggregation. Seek Fourth Win Buffets face the strong Watsonville Packers in appletown and will be driving for their fourth straight win. Tommy Rowans outfit is not to be trifled with, being loaded with pitching and some hard hitters. Before the grind opened, they were figured as one of the clubs to beat and have done nothing to change anyone's mind about the idea.

Salinas will come up with Ed Garcia or Bob Cantrell throwing and will rest their hopes on their usually steady wings. Cantrell lefthanded his way past Pacific Grove with three hits last Sunday and missed a shutout by an unearned tally In the ninth. King City at PG King City hits the trail for the third time in four weeks on the Sabbath, moving into Pacific Grovs and hungry for their first wm. They lost a heartbreaker to Alisal and again last week gave Watsonville all of the fight they could handle, but missed out in the ninth. It will be Lowell Gosser or Lou Echenique for the visitors, while Mike Stalter, Grove pilot, will probably come up with Irons, who tossed here last week and had poor support.

The Dodgers will have several junior college players In the lineup for the contest. Win In First Don Castros scored their lone tally In the first when Willie Co-lombinl was hit by a pitched ball, Mike Bellone whiffed. Jack Smick hoisted to Jim Morrison and then Bob Smick batted in the run that took the game with a double. Lone Del Conte blow came off Owen Moore in the sixth, when Ron Wesley hit a double. He replaced John Blackinger in the GMs position early this year. Rent Control? There will be fights and rassling bouts in the area within a short time, despite the virtual freeze-out from the national guard armory. The freeze was accomplished by an effective means, raising rental to the prohibitive figure. Before the first of this month, it cost Promoter Mickey Casper $15 for a benefit card or $75 for a straight commercial bill.

New rates which became effective a week ago today are $50 for benefits and $150 for commercial operations. The armory Is located on city owned Nosey: First it was the St. Louis Browns, later the Cleveland Indians who expressed more than casual interest in the new baseball park as a site for a Class or team here. Last week a representative of another 1 major league interest was snooping around the town, looking over the park site and hotel accomodations. He liked it, so it is reported.
