Tor Claiitfied 'Ad Reiulli BROOKLYN DAILY EAGLE, MONDAY, MAY 23, 1938 TelepKone MAin 4-6000 11 Dcatbs Son Celebrates Golden Wedding Mass i Rabbi Glazer Dies: Was Beth-El Head Harry Lumley, 57; Ex-Dodger Pilot Managed Team in 1909 and Headed National League Batters With .337 in '06 Binghamton, May 23 Harry Lumley, manager of the Brooklyn base-ball team in 1909 and an outfielder on the team for a number of years, died here yesterday after a long illness, aged 57. Lumley was a star batsman and In 1906 led the National League with a percentage of .337 while a member of the Brooklyn team. He was an outfielder for Brooklyn for seven years, coming to the club in 1904 from the Pacific Coast. He succeeded Pat Donovan as manager at the close of the 1908 season and guided the Dodgers from his outfield berth during 1909. Under Lumley's leadership, Brooklyn finished in sixth place, an improvement of one place over its standing In 1908.

In 1910 he gave way to William F. Dahlen. He remained with the team in 1910 as outfielder until the end of April, when his wife died. He then asked Bernard J. Feely, Savings Executive Appraiser and Director of Loan AsHorialion Had Headed Liquor Dealers Bernard J.

Feely, an appraiser for the Brooklyn Federal Savings and Loan Association, 91 Court and a fsrmer president of the old Retail Liquor Dealers of Kings County, a post he held before Prohibition, died suddenly yesterday at his home, 430 58th St. At the time of his death Mr. Feely also was a director and a member of the executive committee of the loan organization. He had been associated with that concern for about 40 years, and until four years ago was Its secretary and treasurer. Born in Brooklyn, Mr.

Feely had lived at the same address in Bay Ridge for the last 40 years. He was an election district captain of the 7th A. D. Democratic Club, a lieutenant of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Perpetual Help R. C.

Church and a member of the St. Patrick's Society and the Society of Residential Appraisers. Mr. Feely was the husband of the late Mrs. Tillie F.

On May Wrote 26 Books, Including History of Israel, and Led National Organizations Rabbi Simon Glazer, 60, who was in cliarge of Temple Beth-El here from 1923 to 1930 and wrote 26 books, including a history of Israel, died of a heart ailment last night in the Harkness Pavilion of the Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center after an illness of three weeks. Rabbi Glazer lived at 353 Fort Washington Manhattan, and from 1930 until he retired recently was head of the Malmonldes Synagogue and school at 312 W.

89th Manhattan. At various times he had been president of the Central Council of Rabbis of America and of the Central Council of Orthodox Rabbis of Greater New York and chairman of the executive committee of the Assembly of Rabbis of America. Was Born in Russia Born in Kovno, Russia, on Jan. 21, 1878, Rabbi Glazer had served as rabbi in Tapiau, East Prussia, before coming to the United States 40 years ago. Among the Important pojNts he held in this country before coming to Brooklyn were those of chief rabbi of tlie United Synagogues of Montreal, from 1907 to 1918; chief rabbi of Kansas City from 1920 to 1923, and rabbi of Beth Hamidrash Hajjodol in Manhattan from 1923 to 1927.

His history of Israel Is in six volumes. He wrote also "Jews of Iowa," "The Sabbath School Guide," "The Guide of Judaism" and "The Palestine Resolution," and had edited Jewish prayer books. He was founder and first editor of the Jewish Eagle, Montreal newspaper, and had edited the Jewish Herald in Des Moines. the Jewish Compromiser in Tnlpdo Ohio, mid the Jewish Golden wedding celebrants, Mr. and Mrs.

May 23 Mrs. Grace Ohlsen. 82, of 164 East Chester thus city, died ye.suerday in Long Beach Hospital from shock and other injuries suffered in her home Saturday when she fell down stairs and fractured her right hip. She was treated by the family physician who ordered her taken to the for further attention.

May 23 i.V'i Charles Weitzel, whose long career as a professional diver was crammed full of adventure and heroism, died here yesterday. He was 68. One of the highlights in Weitzel's life was his participation in the rescue of 110 persons from drowning in the General Slocum steamboat fire in 1904. He received a bronze medal for this feat, Working in the dangerous East River in New York, he nearly last his life when his hose line fouled and his suit was torn. When he was hauled to the surface an hour and a half later his suit was filled with water up to the headpiece.

Father Whelan was formerly editor of the Brooklyn Tablet for a number of years. He was pastor of the Church of St. Stanislaus Martyr and of the Church of the Presentation before going to St. Mary Star of the Sea Church. The body of Father Whelan will lie in state in the church from tomorrow afternoon until the time of the funeral services.

A guard of honor, composed of members of the Holy Name Society and of the Knights of Columbus, will remain at the bier tomorrow night. Father Whelan is survived by three sisters, a niece, Helen Sheri dan, and two nephews, William and Raymond Sheridan. William Clackens, Prominent Artist William J. Glackens. noted artist, died yesterday of a heart attack in the home of Mr.

Glackens was born in Philadelphia and for a number of years worked as an illustrator for Philadelphia and Manhattan newspapers. He studied at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. He was married in 1903 to Edith Dimock of Hartford. and three years later went to Europe, where lie did some important etchings and paint- ings. He had been described as a "trur American, painting in tlie French tradition." and as "the greatest impressionist this country has pro- duced." In recent years his works I have been purchased by the Cor-I coran Gallery of Washington, the I Metropolitan Museum of Art and other art galleries.
