1,000 PAY FINAL TRIBUTE TO SENATOR HOWARD More than 1,000 persons, includ-' Ing State legislators and Brooklyn political leaders, attended the requiem mass today for State Senator John J. Howard in the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 5th Ave. and 59th St. Senator Howard, who was 71, died Friday at his home, 453 55th after a brief illness. The mass was celebrated by the Rev.

John Tribull, pastor of the church, assisted by the Rev. John Crowell as deacon and the Rev. Thomas F. O'Connor of Newburgh as sub-deacon. Burial followed in Holy Cross Cemetery.

Secretary of State Michael J. Walsh headed the delegation of Charles J. Stewart, Stock Broker's Son Well-Known Bay Ridge Athlete Was Fordham Man Charles J. Stewart of 260 76th son of Charles E. Stewart, a member of the New York Stock Exchange and a partner of Libaire Stout died yesterday at Holy Family Hospital after a brief illness.

Mr. Stewart, who was 26, was employed by the British Purchasing Commission. He was a graduate of Georgetown Preparatory School and Fordham University, class of 1937. Ho was well known in Bay Ridge athletic circles, particularly in basketball, and had played with the Crescent and Downtown Athletic Clubs. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of Our Lady of Angels R.

C. Church. Besides his father, he is survived by his mother, Florence Lynch Stewart; three brothers, William Edward J. and Eugene and three sisters, Mrs. J.

Pioneers Family One of Oldest On the North Shore Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Glen Cove, Jan. 28-George James Price, a member of one of the oldest families on the north shore, died here yesterday at the home of his niece, Miss Anne O. Price, on Walnut Road. Mr. Price, who was 81, was the last of his generation in the community.

He was born in Glen Cove, a son of the late George James and Susan Louise Thompson Price. The family homestead. Dosoris Manor, overlooking Long Island and Dosoris Pond, adjoins the estate of J. P. Morgan.

It is now a part of Belvoir, the estate of Francis D. Bartow, a partner of Mr. Morgan. On a recent birthday Mr. Price showed a tax bill of $25 on the 1853 levy on his holdings, now valued at $20,000 an acre.

In addition to his niece Mr. Price leaves a nephew, George Price of Pinehurst, N. C. Mrs. Jessie G.

Girard Special to the Brooklyn Eagle Bay Shore, Jan. 28-Mrs. Jessie Gardner Girard, retired actress, died here yesterday at the Southside Hospital at the age of 68. She began her stage career with a Philadelphia opera company at the age of 12 and later toured with the Donnelly Girard Company. She appeared in "The Rain Makers." "My Friend from India," and "The Geezer." Following her marriage to Eddie Girard she played in vaudeville with him in this country and the British Isles.

Since May, 1930, she has been living at the Percy Williams Home, East Islip. LAST RITES FOR SENATOR HOWARD-Many prominent persons were among the mourners who looked on today as flower-blanketed casket of State Senator John J. Howard was borne into the Church of Our Lady of Perpetual Help, 5th Ave. and 59th where requiem mass was celebrated. James J.

Clune James Clune of 1066 Bergen St. died Sunday at his home. He Stu was born in Ireland and was retired from business. Surviving are his widow, Ellen O'Neill Clune; two daughters, Alice M. and Margaret and a son, James S.

Clune. He also was the father of the late John S. Clune. Also surviving are six grandchildren and three greatgrandchildren. The funeral will be held from the home at 10:15 a.m.

Francis C. Heenan, Prominent Catholic Active Layman Helped Found Church Groups Francis C. Heenan, formerly prominent in Catholic Church and fraternal work here, died yesterday at his home, 165 6th after an illness of three months. He was 77. Mr.

Heenan, who was born in Brooklyn, formerly was employed with the American Exchange National Bank. He took an important part in organizing the Catholic Benevolent Legion and served as president of Council I. He also was for many years treasurer of the International Catholic Truth Society, which was organized at meeting at his home. At the time of the organization of Columbus Council, 126, K. of Mr.

Heenan was elected as its first secretary. He also was a veteran of the old 23d Regiment, serving in Company and was a momber of the St. Vincent de Paul Society of St. Augustine's Church. Mr.

Heenan is survived by his wife, Nora Riley Heenan; a daughter. Loretta and two sons, James and Francis M. Heenan. The funeral mass will be held at St. Augustine's R.

L. McCann, Naval Reservist Served on Troop Transport During the World War Lt. Joseph L. McCann, U. S.

Naval Reserve, died early yesterday at the Brooklyn Naval Hospital after being stricken with a heart attack Saturday at his home, 554 75th St. He was 54. Born in Brooklyn, he was a graduate of the Sacred Heart School. During the World War he served aboard the Aphrodite, convoying troops to France, and received his commission as lieutenant while overseas. He was a member of the Brook- Lodge of Elks, Columbus CounK.

William R. White, City Law Examiner Funeral services for William R. White, chief examiner of the Law Department of the City of New York, who died Saturday at the age of 57, will be held tomorrow morning. A requiem mass will be celebrated at 10 o'clock in St. Barnabas Church, E.

241st St. Martha the Bronx, and burial will be in St. Raymond's Cemetery, Mr. White, whose home was at 4374 Van Cortland Park East, the Bronx, was a former patrolman and was a classmate of Mayor LaGuardia in the law school of New York University. The Mayor, in his condolences to the family, recalled that he had known Mr.

White for many years, and cited his rapid promotions during the past seven years. Mr. White was born in Syracuse and came to New York in 1905 after having attended Syracuse University. Appointed a patrolman and assigned to the Detective Bureau, he took up the study of law and was assigned to the legal bureau of the Police Department prior to graduation and his admission to the bar in 1911. Early in 1913 he resigned from the police force and was appointed an examiner in the Law Department.

He is survived by his widow, Mrs. Kathryn Hore White; two daughters, Mrs. Marie Gleeson and Helen P. White, and three sons, William R. Henry F.

Burial takes place this afternoon 111 Cypress Hills Cemetery. Mr. Zucker, whose home was at 1387 St. John's Place, died suddenly of a heart attack Sunday afternoon. just before "curtain time" for a vaudeville show he had arranged for bed -ridden veterans at the Brooklyn Naval Hospital.

He was 50 and a veteran of the World War, in which he was gassed while fighting with of the 302d Infantry. A Company, member of the Samuel R. Hoffman Post, Jewish War Veterans, Brownsville Post, American Legion, and the Noah Benevolent Society. He was active in veteran affairs for many years, serving as hospitalization chairman of the Jewish War Veterans for five years, and prior to that serving in the same capacity for the American Legion. He is survived by two children, Bernard and Gloria.

Among the J. W. V. officials who attended the services were Charles Kaplan, commander of Hoffman Post; National Vice Commander Sol Abelow. National Recruiting Officer Abe Cohen, State Junior Vice Commander Archie Greenberg and Acting County Commander Ber.
