Fast, tunny and faintly wicked, It bears the cover-all title of "Hollywood Laft Parade'' and tops a picture that is good enough to stand by itself. Such Is Orrea PerncI, who reaffirmed the high opinion won at the time of her debut here last season, in her second New York recital In Town Hall last night. Thoroughly musical and thoroughly musiclanly, she played an enjoyable program in commanding fashion, winning the plaudits of a small but knowing audience.

There are many admiraale qualities to Misi Pernel's playing not least among them a substantially rich and sonorous tone. Her incisive bowing brings forth this full-bodied tone In compelling fashion. On the screen, Miss Hampton Is starting her third career in "Road to Reno." Before pictures talked. Miss Hampton was a star. But she retired to study voice and soon came back as an operatic prima donna.

In her latest assignment she shows signs ot making her comeback stick, for she still has a good voice and a pleasing personality which she merges to make "Road to Reno" an engaging screen Hem. Her rythmic sense Is keen with the result that the firm bowing heightens the effect of her playing. Her technique may be taken for granted, for ihe goes far beyond the mere mechanics of a violinist's ordinary accomplishments. It is a distinct pleasure to watch her as well as hear her perform. The program opened with that famous Tartini Sonata in Minor, best known as the "Devil's Trill." It was played with tin energy almost to the point of defiance in the allegro portions and a sen.se of poetic warmth in the slow movement.

The devil have been more wickedly malicious in this performance but not more determined. A charming interpretation of the Mozart Sonata No. 10 in Flat followed in which Miss Pernel excelled in the broad cantabile of the An-dantino and caught the lightness of the final allegro more in the actual playing than the tonal efefct. Brooks Smith, who contributed finely modulated accompanimeis throughout the evening, collaborated particularly well in this work. One of the true tests of all violin playing, the Bach Chaconne, found Miss Pernel nAre than equal to the challenge of the work and giving a nicely intergrated accounted of the music's variable nature.

It was a performance intensely projected and intensely enjoyed. The Bax Sonata No. 3 was beautifully done and decidedly appealing both for its musical content and musicianly treatment. The program closed with a group by Malipiero, Szymanowskl and Nin. on the West Coast.

Jennings, now 74 years old, has led an exemplary life since he was freed from jail In 1904 by President Theodore Roosevelt. Brattleboro Theater's permanent divorce mecca will not cherish for one minute. Part of Miss Wylie's special technique Is that she can twist a run-of-the-mill story so that, by the time the climax arrives, her plot has an original flavor. That is the situation at the Brooklyn Strand, where Miss Hampton is an opera singer being rushed off to Reno, after the final bars of La Boheme.

to get a divorce from her ranch-owning husband, Randolph Scott. But Scott won't consent to a divorce. With the help of Helen Broderick, the opera singer starts a nuisance campaign to persuade him to get rid of her, turning his place Into a dude ranch and generally getting into his hair. By the time she has exhausted all of her tricks including the plan to put Glenda Farrell in his way Scott Is still adamant. S.

Sylvan Simon directed a cast that is always agreeable though never brilliant, and made the most of the colorful Western highlands which supply the major locale. No spectacular epic, "Road to Reno" is nevertheless a pleasant experience. Coupled with the vaudeville lineup it provides the local Strand with one of the most attractive shows of Its new season.
