Wnrrlors 3 Pee Wen 2 The Warrior squirts opened the scoring In the first period on a goal by Al Ericsson unassisted. Bob Hendry mntte the score 24 In the second assisted by Dlno Gucrln. The Warriors Al Ericsson lit the red light In the third period tor his second goal ot the night unassisted making the score 3-0. Bob Krautsak Chris Atartln, Warrior goalies, stopped 15 shots on goal but were unuble to holtl the tough Pee Wee team scoreless as Ted Bucukowskc and Ed Pesaek scored assisted by Ray Mueller and Buwskowske. The squirts won this fun game 3-2 and the brother teams of Ed John Peszek and Dim Rich Perlllo had the pleasure of playing against each other.

Mike Cullcn Played a superb game In goal for the Fee Wees, stopping 20 shots on goal. Oeiw Co. Warrior) 4 0 Warrior goalie Chris Martin racked up another shutout as the Warriors scored a 4-0 victory over Miles. Bob Anderson opened the scoring column on a first period goal assisted by Mike Sweeney. One minute and seven seconds later Sweeney connected for his first of three giving the Warriors a 2-0 edge.

Sweeney connected for his second at of the second period and his third at 12:60 In the third period. Assisting on the goals were Andersen (3), Tim Klrknam, John Peszek and Dan Myers, STATE TOl'RXAMBNT C'eiis A Co. Wnrrlorn 3 Dnwnera Grove 0 The Warriors played their first state tournament game at Northbrook Saturday and defeated Downers P.oyal» 2-0. Bob Krautsak played a luperb game In the nets, stopping 12 Royals shots on goal. After a scoreless first period, the Warriors shot one past till' Royals goalie with 15 seconds remaining in the second period.

Al Ericsson (cored this goal on an assist by Bob Anderson. The Warriors hung tough and held the Royals to 2 shots on goal In the third period. Ericsson closed the door on Downers Grove by scoring his second goal of the game at 6:35 of the third period. Great team play gave the Warriors their 1st tournament win. The second game will be played at Northbrook Saturday at 1:46 p.m.

against Wlnnetka. PEE WEE DIVISION TRAVEL Kent Wllmette 1 The Warriors had complete control of the game from the first drop of the puck. Ed Pes- zek led off the scoring with the first goal after only 22 seconds of play, assisted by Alan Ericsson. The other two goals were scored by Pat Smith assisted by Jeff Myers. The entire team played excellent hockey and had a total of 47 shots on goal to Wllmette's 10.

The Warriors played the whole game without receiving even one penalty. Ktke 8, Park Ridge 4 Both Ed Peszek and Alan Ericsson led the Warriors by scoring hat tricks In this game. This was a closely matched game, but the Warriors defense along with goalies Tony Pusaterl and Chase Magglo did a good job turning back the opponents and gaining possession of the puck. The other two goals were scored by Ted and Pat Smith. Assists were credited to Alan Ericsson (3), Ed Peszek (2), Ted Buczkowskc, Jeff Myers and Dave Janney.

Kehe Warriors 2, Elk Grove 3 The Warriors held on to a tied score until Elk Grove scored the winning goal with only 2 minutes 41 seconds left In the game. Goals were scored by Jeff Myers and Dave Janney. Assists were credited to Ted Buczkowske and Fat Smith. BANTAMS TRAVEL DIVISION Lattol Chevrolet Warriors 1. Park Ridge 1 Although the Warriors out shot Park Ridge 21-11 and controlled the puck most of the game, they just couldn't get the winning goal past the fine Park Ridge goalie.

Bob Paladlno scored the lone goal on a pass from Tom Sweeney. All 3 goalies, Mike Mueller, Shawn Conway and Karl Voss played a period of this hard checking game and did a fine job stopping some very hard shots. Lntlof Chevrolet 1, Etmliurnt "Red" 3 Mike Perlllo got the Wurrlors off to a fast start with a goal early In the first period on a pass from Bob Paladlno. Karl Voss and Mike Mueller were In the nets for the Warriors and did a fine job but just coldn't stop this hard shooting "red" Huskle team. STATE TOURNAMENT Latlot Chevrolet Northbrook 0 In their first IAHA tournament game, the Warriors trounced Northbrook 5 to 0 behind the superb goaltcndlng of Mike Mueller who stopped shot after shot.

Scoring for the Warriors were Tom Sweeney (2), Jim Varey (2) and Steve Voss. This was a great team victory and all the players did their part In earning this shutout. BANTAM HOUSE LEAGUE Accredited Services 6, Home of Heat 2 Mike Mueller played a great game In the nets for Accredited Services as they defeated the House of Heat team 6 to 2, Scoring for Accredited were Bob Paladlno (2), Tom Anderson, Kurt Smith, Larry and Joe Mlka. Assists were credited to Mlka (2), Ray Roberts and Joe Bracco (2). House of Heat goals were scored by Curtis with an assist to BUI Sautr and Sauer unassisted.

In amateur hockey, the Junior Division consists of young men ranging In age (rom 17 to 20. The tournemcnt games, which begun this week arc being played at the Twin Ice Forum, and at the Polar Dome In East Dundee. Teams shooting for the State Championship, other thun the Schaumburg Kings, are from Kankakee. Oak Park, Rock Valley, and Willow Springs.

The championship game will be held on Saturday, March 2, at the Twin Ice Forum. Game time is 8 p.m. The consolation game will Immediately follow the championship game. GOLD DIVISION King Mites (age 7 8) SchMunburg 8, Rolling Meadows 4 The littlest of the Schaumburg Kings dropped a god Rolling Meadows team. Scott Dunne, one of the smallest on the King squad, led the Kings scoring barrage with four goals.

Vlnce Russo, Brad Sterling, Kike Stevenson and Vice Nleland each scored one goal. Stevenson also picked up three assists. Other assists went to Russo, Joel Basgall, John Clsh- ek, Jon Hcllnskl and Dave Bowman Schaumburg 9, Elk Grove 0 The Kings chalked up another win In the Woodflold Hockey League as goalie Mike Stevenson shut out Elk Grove. Kings' scorlnc parade was led by Vlnce Nleland and Marc Shlpbaugh who each scored a pair of goals. Shlpbaugh also earned two assists, and Nle- land picked up one.

Also scoring for Schaumburg were Brad Sterling, Soctt Dunne. Jon Hellnski, Scott Melkerson and Joel Basgall. Todd Caudell assisted on two Schaumburg goals, and Melkerson and Nleland also added assists to their goals. McArlhur Realty (age 9 10) Slraimwood Schanmbnrg 0 The Schaumburg Kings saw their perfect Woodfleld Hockey League record evaporate before their very eyes In a game they Just weren't supposed to win. Everything went wrong as they suffered their first shut out of the year.

Streamwood scored curly In the first period, and got away only four more shots during the rest of the entire game. Schaumburg, meanwhile, was blasting the uncanny Streamwood goalie 21 times, but failed to connect on even one. In spite of the loss, the Kings have first place In the Woodfleld League locked up, and are looking forward to the playoffs. IAHA TOURNAMENT GAME Schsiimburit 7, Illlnlwel 0 The King Squirts blew past their first state tournament opponent 7-0 In quest of their second straight State Championship. Led by Bill Dunne, who scored three goals and an assist, the Kings were far superior to the Illlnlwek.

Mike Rucinski scored two goals and an assist for Schaumburg, and Jody Horn hit for one goal and an assist Other assists In the tournament game went to Pat Gourley and to Tony DeVita. Arrow Sheet Metal Pec-Wees (ages 11 12) Schanmburg Streamwood 0 Schaumburg ran up against a tough Streamwood team who matched the Kings shot for shot. Both teams applied heavy pressure throughout the game. Jon Melkerson spelled trouble for Streamwood scoring both goals for Schaumburg. Melkerson's first goal came on a pass from John Gould, Frank Gourley and Glen Fancutt assisted on the second King goal.

Randhurgt Flames Schaumburg 1 Schaumburg couldn't put out the lire at the classy Randhurst arena. Dunbar Realty Hldgetf 15 Schanmburg 5, Elk Grove 0 Schaumburg continued to roll toward nailing down the top spot in Woodfield Hockey League play. This time It was at the expense of Elk Grove. Joe Clccla set up Bob Payson for the first score Then It was Mike Waghorne on assists from Brian Donaldson and Cary Dickson to Schaumburg. Then Len Laprlno went to work, and ripped the Elk Grove net for two scores with the help of Clccla, Scott Scholz, and Davn Calvert.

Mouse Pollard topped off the Kings' antics with un unassisted goal of his own Bill Arentz earned his fifth shutout of the season. Schniimurg 2, Streamwood 0 Bill Arentz In the nets equals another Schaumburg shutout. Arentz has allowed only 10 goals in his 12 games lor Schaumburg lor an incredible .83 goals against average. Streamwood's goaltendlng was very good also as 30K Ings' shots failed to cross the goal line. Mike Waghorne and Len Laprlno mode sure they found the soft spot however, and made the difference In the game with a goal apiece.

Assisting In Schaumburg's scoring efforts were Cary Dickson, Mike Fabry and Bob Payson. Component, Inc. Junlori (ages 17-20) Schaumburg 4, Elk Grove 4 When Schaumburg and Elk Grove get together for a hockey game, you have three periods of brutal physical contact. This game was no exception. The game was a hard, clean same that sent an Elk Grove player to the hospital with a back Injury, and the Kings' Steve Bird following shortly after with an eye Inlurty Schaumburg scoring came from Ed Flnne- ran, Steve Gorlinskl, Bird and Joe Vuglar.

Assists went to Gorlinski, John Glmmler, Bob Warner, and Dan Weiss. Elk Grove had 24 shots on goal; Schaumburg had 32. Schaumburg's last shot went into the nets as the final horn sounded Had It been a fraction of a second earlier, the Kings would have had goal number five. PURPLE DIVISION Kins Mites (nges 7 8) Lake in the Hills Schaumbnrg 1 Hopes for a playoff spot In the Polar Dome were dashed for the Kings by a determined group of Lakers. Spoiling a Laker Shutout was Tony Braglia, assisted by Tony Hruby and John Vermigllo.

King goalie Mike Cress turned back 18 shots, while the Lakers' goalie handled but five. King Squirts (age 9 10) Elmhurst Schaumbarg 1 Schaumburg clearly outpaced the tough Elmhurst Huskies in every category but scoring The only Schaumburg goal was scored by John Slavin with assists form Bill Waghorne and Ed Flynn. Schaumburg outshot the Huskies 11 7, and the Elmhurst goalie made the difference. Streamwood Blades 4, Schanmbiirc; A Streamwood riddled King goalie Scott Gorman 20 times for four scores. The King offense was not Impressive against the Blades as they could only manage to get away four shots of their own.

IAHA TOURNAMENT GAME Northbrook 8, Schaumbnrg 3 The Kings ran into real trouble with Northbrook who eliminated them from the tournament The H.L. expansion team was playing for keeps, but Nortlibroofc dominated the game offensively and defensively. They held the Kings to only 9 shots on goal while they were taking 15. Scoring for the Kings were Howard Leek. John Murphy and Bill Waghorne Assists came from Tom Anderson and Jerry Slobed- nlk.

IAHA TOURNAMENT GAME Downers Grove 4, Schanmbnrg 3 The Kings' hopes for a shot at the State Championship were washed out In a hard skated, rough, penalty-filled game. Scoring for Schaumburg was Bob Shlp- baugh, Glen Busch and Jerry Helinskl. Eric Olson and Ted Eltzroth each were credited with an assist Overall the game was very evenly matched with each team getting 16 shots on goal.Scott Roos was the only King who who could manage to find the net. Schaumburg, skating with only two lines, found themselves a bit scorched when the game was over. King (age 13 14) IAHA TOURNAMENT GAME Highland Park 6, Schaumbnrg 0 Another Schaumburg team bit the dust, this time at the hands of an overwhelming team from Highland Park.

The Kings held their own during the first period, and then the rof caved in. Highland Park blasted King goalie Drew Skalkas 37 times while their defense held Schaumburg to a meager 12 shots on goal. Schaumburg Crystal Lake 1 Crystal Lake was downed for the third straight time by a fired up King team. Larry Hermanson hit first for Schaumburg assisted by Tim Plata. Dan Gorman scored the winning goal, unassisted.

Drew Skalkas did fine, as usual, stopping 22 shots. Schaumburg had a slight edge in this department with 28 shots on goal. King Midgets (aiees 15 16) Schnnmbnrg 4, Elmhurst 4 A hard, fast game by both teams saw the Huskies and Kings end their contest with a tie. This Is a credit to the Huskie goalie who stopped twice as many shots as did Schaumburg. Joe Ducote, with two goals and an assist, and Mike with a goal and two assists, led the Kings' scoring.

Paul Rio added a goal and an assist, with Todd Zarko credited with an assist. King; Juniors (ages 17-30) Northwest Flyers 6, Schaumbnrg 0 The Northwest Flyers managed to shut out the Kings in their last league game of the season at the Polar Dome. The Juniors are looking forward to hosting the Novice Division of the IAHA State Tournament. Virginia Slims tennis action begins today The 1974 winter-spring Virginia Slims Circuit, part of the USLTA Professional Tennis Tour, is bringing the stars of womens' tennis to Chicago, today through Sunday. Tennis fans from all over the Midwest may see Billie Jean King, Chris Evert, Bosie Casals, Franooise Durr, Betty Stove and Laurie Fleming among others battle on the courts for te winner's $10,000 share of the $50,000 tournament.

The $50,000 purse is a new high. Chicago to (he sixth stop on this year's winter-apring tour, of 14 cities, which concludes on April 29 with the $100,000 Family Circle Cup at Sea Pines, South Carolina. Total prize money on thb first half of the Circuit is $750,000, as compared to a total of $665,000 from both circuits in 1973. The Virginia Slims of Chicago tournament will be played at the Lakwhore Racquet dub, 1320 W. Ave.

Preliminary matches begin today. Doubles will be played on Tuesday and Wednesday with the singles quarterfinals on Thursday and Friday. Semi-finals will begin Saturday afternoon and the finals will played on Sunday ait 1 p.m. This year's Virginia Slims Circuit marks the first unified circuit under the banners of the US- LTA, Women's Tennis Association, and Virginia Slims.
