Forty Year Gold Bonds do do do An undercurrent of firmness was developed in the local stock market yesterday that was as surprising as it was pleasing to the majority of operators, who have longed for a broad, active market, something they have not had, excepting the recent spurt, lor many months past. Yesterday's movement was by no means regular; on the contrary, the market presented weak and strong spots at the same time, while fluctuations were more or less erratic throughout the day, and it was difficult at all times to judjre their course, so rapid were the "changes ia direction." But, as staled, an undercurrent of firmness was apparent at all times, which was due, probably, to the liberal buying orders uncovered on every reaction. Metropolitan Traction was again the centre of attraction. Indianapolis was without sales, but Koch-ester l'asseuger was off Vi per cent, nt 35. Consolidated Traction 5s were weak at the opening, selling at 80, but late sales were made at 81. Welsbach Light made a movement similar to that on Thursday. Opening at It held firm at that figure awhile and then suddenly declined to 37V4. Inside buying orders were again caught and a prompt rally to 89 followed; it closed at United Gas and the Eleetrlc Storage Battery stocks were not traded In, but Edison Electric Light brought 115.
