Mr. Smith who located here with his family a few years ago from Bakers-field, has made himself very popular with his neighbors through his friendly and agreeable ways, with all who he came In contact, also by keeping the county road he has charge of in such excellent condition. His neighbors showed their esteem by giving a pleasant surprise party and presenting Mr. and Mrs.

B. M. Smith with numerous presents, among them, two fine comfortable rocking chairs. The evening was spent with music and recitations and a collation was served. Hut the main point against the Sec-tetary seems to be Ignored by him. This is that he had repeatedly said that In his Judgment the money supply outstanding was ample for all legitimate wants, and that he was opposed to buying bonds at present; and then that he turned about within about twenty-four hours, when the situation had not changed a particle for the worse, and Issued the circular.
