Lebanon Dally Ubtnon Dally Hnn, WcdnMday, July 27,1977 IS Column No. StS NEW COLUMN There is a genealogy column which appears each Sunday in the South Bend, Tribune. The column, "Michiana Roots," is dedicated to helping genealogists everywhere find their ancestors who may have lived in the northern Indiana and southern Michigan area. Queries are accepted for publication which pertain to the region, books are reviewed, similar to this column. The inquiries for the last four years have been indexed and one surname will be checked free for a self-addressed stamped envelope.

Address all correspondence to: Michiana Roots, South Bend Tribune, 225 W. Colfax, South Bend, Ind. 46626. REUNION ZARTMAN The 10th annual reunion of the Zartman family will be held Aug. 14 in the grove across from Emanuel Evangelical Lutheran Church, Route 322, Brickerville, Lancaster Pa.

Andrew Zartman his wife Ann Catharina and their son Jacob, sailed from Rotterdam on the ship "Albany," clearing customs at Portsmouth on 22 Jun 1728, arrived at Philadelphia on 4 Sep 1728 where Alexander made his oath. Apparently the trip took about 75 days, in addition to the days they spent traveling from their home to the port of Rotterdam. As 1978 will mark the 250th anniversary of the arrival of the immigrant Zartman family in America, special plans will be made to commemorate this important anniversary next year. Alexander Zartman helped secure the land from the Perm Brothers upon which stands the church. He was one of the first trustees of the congregation.

Supposedly, he is buried in the church cemetery with his wife and many descendants. All Zartmans from anywhere are invited to the reunion and also are reminded to attend the 55th annual Zartman reunion held in City Park, Rochester, Fulton Aug. 7. Genealogist for both reunions is. Betty Zartman Yeider, 46 Roby Road, Coldwater, Mich.

It was reported Tuesday night the contractor is tamping the backfill, and the testing is being done as specified.
