Firemen Are Busy In City City firemen responded to a number of calls yesterday, ranging from a smoke alarm to a malfunctioning heat detector at Cedar Haven. At 8:50 a.m. firemen from the Hook and Ladder, Liberty, Goodwill and Chemical companies responded to a laundromat at Fourteenth and Willow streets, where considerable smoke was detected. According to City Fire Chief Frank Ceresini, the smoke was caused by a belt slipping on an overheated motor.

No serious damage was discovered. At 10:15 a.m., and again at 6:19 p.m., the Chemical Fire Co. responded to Fifth and Locust streets, where residents were reporting a car leaking gasoline. Chief Ceresini said that the car was the same in both cases, and is owned by Charles Norman, 243 S. Fifth St.

After the second had the vehicle towed away. Members of the Washington Fire Co. stood by at Dutch Miss Fifth and Canal streets, for five hours and 14 minutes yesterday while workmen burned a water tank structure located on the premises. Firemen were reported on the scene by civil defense at 1:18 p.m., and were back in quarters at 6:04 p.m. At 5:50 p.m.

members of the Chemical, Friendship, and Hebron companies responded to Cedar Haven, but found the problem to be a malfunctioning alarm system. According to Chief Ceresini, a heat detector is believed to be repeatedly malfunctioning at the hospital, although the problem hasn't yet been pinpointed. Workmen will continue to search for the cause of the malfunction, Ceresini said. Companies were off the scene by 6:53 p.m. FAITHFUL PARTNERS Joining hands to get things done.

Mark Hatfield, R-Oregon, to eliminate funds for the controversial weapon, which kills by radiation with little damage from heat and blast outside the impact area.
