The Baptist Young Christian union is doing nicely. Besides giving an enjoyable entertainment at Patrick's church, which was crowded regular intervals, they have appointed thoughout the four which the exercises consumed.

Early in March Judge Robson, the resident, called the convention of the 1'exus State Good Roads League to meet at Galveston, Tuesday, June 9, 1896.

In this announcement, Judge Robon suggests that every county, every city, every trade and every organization of wheelmen should be represented pered always tinder her breathings. The most positive precepts of the Catholic church go to the building up of America. She prescribes loyally to the State, purity of personal life, charity to fe.low-men. If the church croaches upon the sphere of the State, we should bid her be away. If the State enters into the sanctuary of the conscience, the proper empire of the church, the appeal to God, and the State is ordered to hold off its hands.

Separation of church and State we have it in America, church and State revolving freely in their separate and distinct spheres, fall behind none of their in admiring it and demanding its continuance. Catholic church wishes 110 aid from the State in the preaching of the gospel. But liberty from the State she wishes and clamors for as a in its fullest gifts under the common law of the land. I am a Catholic, I am priest anti bishop, but I am an American citizen, and I must be debarred from no rights and privileges accorded to other citizens because 1 am a Catholic or because I carry upon me the insignia of my priesthood. My words betray no fear for the future.

Americans are a people of sincere religious convictions and of profound common sense, and they will know how to keep church and State separate and yet give liberty its full sway and guard religion and morals of good people, for that is really practical religion That kind of Chsistianity that makes itself felt and appreciated by sinners and saints alike. Colonel Robert G. Ingersoll says that a woman ought to have a divorce for the simple If it is right at all that divorces should be granted, then the Vindii a- iok agrees with Col. Ingersoll. For it does not believe that any woman would desire a divorce from her husband who was treated as a wife should be by him.
