BRCTH When the newi came out recently that Curtiss Wright Corporation was buying 9,000 acres and leasing another 40,000 acres of state forest and game lands in the big woods district of Cameron, Clearfield and Clinton coun-ties, sportsmen read it with mixed feelings. The area to be taken out of ciiculation is almost the center of lines drawn from Phihpsburg to St, Mary's and from Clearfield to Kenovo, And that section, as many sportsmen know, is practically a wilderness. It is great big game country for deer and bear, and the wild turkey hunting in it has come up rapidly in the past several years. It also harbors many very good trout-fishing streams.

However, the new Curtiss Wright plant will be a terrific I boon to the economic lifeblood of i the entire central part of the HARRIS BRETH state. It is predicted that the proj ect will provide several thousand with jobs, and draw manpower from a radius of many miles. Legislation now in Harrisburg is. designed to minimize the loss of forest and game lands, and it provides that the price paid for the 9,000 acres of land will be $22.50 per acre. And that the 40,000 acres be leased at $30,000 per year.

Another provision in the bill makes it mandatory that campers holding camn leases will be offered other sites on comparable lands on comparable. terms on other state forest areas The Pennsvivanis Game Commission also plans to make agreements with the industry that will keep open to hunting, especially for big game, all the area except the parts included in plant operations, This means that most of the 40,000 acres can be hunted' The center of the area will fall about at the point where the three countv lines meet. This is the section known bv manv sportsmen as the Lin coin Farm, which is iust a few miles from the intersection of the Lincoln Road and the Drift wood Pike coming uo from In the whole 50 000 acres there is only a small part game lands, most of it Is state forests But it does include upper Mosaulto Creek, the McNernev Run section, Red and Paige Runs upper Medi Run and upper Wycoff Run. To replace the loss of Ashing and recreation, the Department of Forests and Waters already has begun a thorough survev of adlacent areas for new rec reation renters. One site under consideration Is in the Immediate area and within easy reach of present and future residents of St Mary's Dubois, Clearfield, Rp novo, Phihpsburg and manv other Central Pennsylvania communities This tenative site can provide a huge lake of 700 to 1,000 acres which will make uo for the loss of fishing, It also will provide excellent swimming and boating facilities, as well as camp sites, fireplace and picnic shelters.
