General Tola Done in a Neat and Workmanlike Manner at Reasonable Rates Satisfaction Guaranteed FRALEY W. B. SMITH, MONEY Time, and time again we hear of elope ments. Some young girl runs away from her home to join some one whom she has met while away from home, and through his blandishments has caused her to leave home, friends, and perhaps some young man who has trusted her, and believed that she was true in all things. This custom is growing, and is becoming, day by day, more popular, and sooner or later, brings trouble to all parties concerned.

There is no reason for such a way of doing. Parents should have a care over a daughter and see that she is not led astray by some scallawag, who has no pure motive toward her, and when a young man who is known to them, comes along and treats a girl in a proper manner, and gives his whole attention to her, he should be encouraged and the daughter might, by care, be saved from ruin, and the parents from disgrace. In these days young men who are true and who have confidence in a girl, and find out, a few weeks before the time set for the marriage that she is false, and deceitful, it is apt to take away from him his ambition and place him in such a position that he will go down, down until there is no hope for his recovery. He will no doubt feel that revenge is his only resort, and will wait weeks, perhaps years, to have revenge. because he has trusted and loved her for years and at last found that his trust has been misplaced.

Shooting one whom he has loved is now becoming the favorite way of revenge, and girls will do well to study carefully their actions, and make up their mind to be true, and not prove fickle and changeable. This will save many girls from rain and disgrace, make their future life happy, and give to their parents joy in their old age, rather than drag father, mother and self down to a grave of sorrow, because of a mistake in youth. BtMtneu Increased. Philadelphia and Erie railroad stock has again commenced to assume a prominent position among the speculatives, and has been bought largely by those houses that have heretofore been well posted concern ing its movements. Some months ago it was rumored that the Pennsylvania Rail road intened to throw freight over the Philadelphia and Erie in order to enable it to earn sufficient profits to become a dividend payer, and thus render the pre ferred stock, held by the Pennsylvania Railroad Company, an available collateral to sell or borrow moneylipon.

Since the present negotiations with Mr.Vanderbilt will secure the Beech Creek Road, it is a forgone conclusion that the traffic from that road, which has heretofore been car ried over the Catawissa road, will here after be given to the Philadelphia and Erie, thereby Largely increasing the next profits of the latter road. Renovo News. Items from Ludlow. Another gas well is being put down near the first water tank; we have only three of the largest in Pennsylvania, but another is badly needed. Cole next Monday and Van Amburg to day. Everybody says business is improving here, and I think it is owing somewhat to the fact that oil recently moved to higher plane than it has been for a long time.

Two colored girls from the clasicpre cincts the Island just had a hearing be fore Alderman Graham, charged with inveigling a white man into their den and robbing him of about he had no business there, and ought to be ashamed to raise his head after the de velopements at the hearing. A sorry looking crowd, was the party that returned from the falls Thursday morning, after being on their feet all day and riding all night. Much good judicial timber was sawed off at the butt, when Gov. Pattison vetoed the "Additional Law Judge" bill, but understand an effort will be made to in duce Judge Olmstead to remove to this county. I hope he will, for as it is, it is very expensive and inconvenient for the people of this county to be compelled to go to Potter county every time it is neces sary to apply to a law judge for any thing, This county is really entitled to a resident law judge under the constitution, and the people ought to demand and insist upon their rights in this respect.

Bradford, July 21. Jacob. An exchange hits the nail on the head when it says: "When you hear man sneering at the local papers because they are not as big, cheap and newsy as the large city papers, you can safely bet that he does not squander his wealth in assisting to make them better, and that generally the papers have done more for him than he has for them. The man who cannot see the benefit arising to a town from its newspapers, hasn't the sense of an oyster, and he is of about as much value to a town as a delinquent tax list." Straw goods at cost to close out, at 0. B.

If any body asks you what you think ot the weather, just tea them it is too warm to think about, and find out if you can what he is going to do about it. AVc understand that T. W.

Cole, of Bradford, is intending to start a chair factory in that place. If he would come and look over the prospects and advan tages of Kane we think ho would be in duced to locate here. We have received the first number of the Kane Leader a paper started by Earl BroV Malone. It is a beautiful sheet, typographically, and ably conducted. Kane needs a paper and should liberally support the enterprise.

Brother Hughes appears to overlook the fact that a newspaper now a days swallows a gold mine whole. At Wilcox the other day, we met Host," Fred. Schoening, of the "Wilcox House, and found him busy. He has a first class hotel, the rooms being well furnished and handsomely decorated while the table is all that one could desire. Mr.

Scbxenirig has been proprietor of the hotel for a short time only, but many improvements are noticed in its tnanage mcnt. Robert Bell, who has the contract for building the stone work on the Hoffman block, new school house and sewers, had trouble with his employees one day last week in regard to wages. Mr. Bell said he was paying them $3.00 and that they wanted $3.50, which he could not afford to give, and secured other men iu their place. This is the second strike in Warren within the past two weeks.

While in Wilcox one day last week, L. Ernhout, general agent for the Broughton Nut Lock, showed us the new patent, and we at once saw how simple, but what is proving a great success in locking the nuts that hold the iron rails together. A washer with two holes cut through so that it will pass over the nuts, and a key passing through the washer and through the lock. The lock is in the middle of the plate, and a key passing through a slot in the lock, this forms the simple arrangement that holds the nuts so that it is impossible for them to turn, thus securing the rails in an absolutely wife manner. The Westminster Class Review, at the Presbyterian church last Sunday evening, was a complete success, and showed thorough training at the hands of Mr.

Win. Hubbard, the Sunday school superintendent. The children all had their parts learned to perfection and took great interest in the review. The exercises consisted of singing, recitations from the life of Paul and tracing on the map his different journeys, questions by different scholars which were answered by the class as they were called upon. The pastor was then called and ho made a few appropriate remarks, when the ceremonies closed with singing by the class while the large audience was passing out.

About 8 o'clock last nipht, a small bulldog belonging to M. Carniday, was parsing down the street past James C'nmpbeH'e Livery Stable, and bit the latter named gentleman's little child on the hand. The bite was a severe one, and Dr. Crossmire was called in to dress the wound, The father, thinking it was best to have the dog killed, went to Mr. Carniday and after a short discussion the dog was taken down on the back street where Constable Woodrow shot and killed the dog.

The dog was a valuable one, and the owner hated to have him killed, but under the circumstances he consented, and the poor dog was killed. Others, who have savage dogs should take warning and keep them tied or mimlod. as B. of P.WE8T0X, Attorney at Law, Office Davis' Block, KANE, PA. H.
