MAILORDERS PROMPTLY FILLED "The appointment, coming, as it did, only one week prior to the convention, left no opportunity for a successful contest to secure the nomination besides, even though the time bad been longer, I find that It would uot be possible for me to secure the nomination under existing circumstances, and I could expect, therefore, a tenure of office lasting only lor a few weeks. In order lo accept the Magistracy I would be required to resign my place in the District Attorney's office, for I could not lawfully hold the tw places. I am sure that you and all of my friends who so generously supported me for the appointment will appreciate the embarrassment of my situation and agree that I ought not to sacrifice my present place in order to take another for such a very short time. Again thanking you for the very kind compliment contained In your selection of me, I remain, etc." Jermon's confessed inability to secure the nomination is due not to the short time before the convention, nut to the fuct that the fences have already been fixed for John Lu Kens' nomination. Jermon has fur a long time been anxious to become a Magistrate, but he has alwavs failed to srain the anDroval of the Republican leaders.

As soon as It waB decided to make Clement Sheriff of the county, Mr. Jermon begun a canvass for the appointment and for the nomination wblch would make the appointment worth having. Lukens was the combine's candidate, however, and though Jermon secured the appointment, thev refused to accept him as a possible candidate. District Attorney Graham and other lriends advised his aeclinutlon of the appointment. RAILROAD MEN MEET.
