You dont touch a Leader Dog when its harness is on because that dog is now working and cannot be distracted. However, once I drop the harness, you can pdt the dog, Hadden said.

The school doesnt charge its students for their training. The public, through the Lions Club, pays the bill of about $14,000 and (it) docs not cost the blind students a penny, except transportation to the school, Hadden said. Hadden and Molly now travel about 100,000 miles each year to participate in seminars and hands-on interviews with potential students for the Leader Dog program. Molly and 1, through Leader Dog, have had the opportunity to visit many schools of the blind and help people deal with being blind. If that blind person chooses a Leader Dog, they can begin their life in a new dimension.

I felt like I needed to 'give something back and by visiting and sharing with potential students, I felt like I could benefit that person, Hadden said. Hadden and Molly visited Fremont recently for the Annual Lions State Convention at Holiday Lodge. Walt Grossc, past district governor and council treasurer, said the visit helps remind the club about its focus. The Leader Dog program gives people back their freedom to a degree, and to watch one these dog guide teams work is amazing, Grosse said.
