(AP) Junior Misses from all 50 states go' into rehearsals today to prepare for the preliminaries to the May 9 America's Junior Miss Pageant. In Sunday's activity, 10 finalists were picked for the hostess award competition. The five winners of a total of J5.000 in savings bond scholarships will be announced May 8, along with winners in other scholarships programs. Hostess finalists were Junior Misses: Arizona.

The jump shift to three diamonds was forcing and North took this opportunity to show his hearts suit. Altho South has only two hearts--the ace, king may be looked on as adequate support for a suit shown independently by partner after the latter has failed to take a preference between spades and diamonds. Four hearts is a sounder contract than four spades.

When rebid his spades, Nortir carried on to game in that suit. West opened ace of clubs and when bis partner gave him a strong come-on by dropping the ten, he continued with the jack. East overtook with the queen and continued with the king which South ruffed with the nine of spades. A diamond was led to the ace and a spade was returned. East followed with the deuce and declarer ii- nessed the ten--which held.

Inasmuch as dummy lacked a second entry, South continued with the ace and queen of spades in an attempt to split out the suit. West showed out on the third round and East was in with the king. A fourth club forced out declarer's remaining trump. South played the ace and king of hearts and proceeded to run the diamonds. East ruffed the third round and cashed his long club to set the contract by two tricks.

Declarer can cope with a four-two trump break as long as a holds the long spades. All that is required at trick four when South gains the lead is to play the queen of spades from his hand. If East releases the king, he cannot play a fourth round of clubs because North retains the eight of spades as protection against the force. If East ducks the queen of spades, South crosses over to the ace of diamonds, leads a spade from dummy and then finesses the ten after East plays a small trump. When the ten holds, declarer cashes the ace and then proceeds to cash out his side winners.

East may ruff in with the king whenever he wishes, but South retains the jack of spades to regain the lead and a the remaining tricks. He loses only the two clubs and one trump on the deal. A BASKET CASE Birds have a habit of making their nests in strange places, though a hanging basket may not appear too strange, it is when you consider the basket is in a greenhouse. According to McCord's nursery personnel the basket is not the only one with a nest. "Pretty soon." said an employe, "We'll have to start selling basket, flowers, and bird nest." The nursery is located on the Aiken-Augusta highway.

(AP) Six schools have been banished from the Georgia Association of Independent Schools (GAIS) after being accused of maintaining segregationist ties. Representatives of three of the expelled schools walked out when the action was announced. They are Stratford Academy in Macon. the Deerfield School in Albany and the Brookwood School in fhom- asville.

Women Voters Open Convention ft ATLANTA, Ga. (AP The 30th national convention of the League of Women Voters in the U.S. opens today and will include such speakers during the week as feminist Gloria Stei- nem and Columbia Broadcasting System President Richard Salant. Welcoming the 1,500 delegates at the convention's opening meeting in a hotel ballroom this afternoon will be Gov. Jimmy Carter and Mayor Sam Massell.

Questions the delegates will consider will be whether men should be admitted as members, extending the league's current program to cover equal rights for women, and the in fluence the organization has had on politics.
