Some pastors of Sioux Center a Rock Valley areas are urging that all Sioux County communities abide by the resolution adopted by the U.

S. It was the Liberty Bell which on July 4, 1776, first proclaimed to all the world that 13 American colonies were free and independent states. John Kooiker, of Hull, has received a scholarship and will be admitted to Calvin College, Grand Rapids, Michigan, this fall. He plans to study Chemistry and Physics. John was a member of the 1964 -graduating class of Western Christian High School at Hull. At the present time, diverted acres, hay or soybean land seem to have escaped the western rootworm, Reports of 60 worms per plant have been received from the heaviest infested fields. Treatment is recommended when there are 10 worms per plant.

This will allow new brace roots to start and the insecticide will protect these new roots from damage. Applying the insecticide now will not kill the rootworms deeper in the soil. Mrs. Vierhout Rites Will Be Held Today (Funeral services for Mrs.

Lena Vierhout, 85, of Hull, who suffered a stroke last week and passed away at the Sheldon hospital Tuesday, will be held Thursday, July 2 (today) at 1:30 o'clock at the Hope Christian Reformed Church in Hull. A temporary property settlement greement was reached a few weeks go by attorneys for the Hope Chrisian Reformed Church and the Prot- stant Reformed Church, both of Hull. Final settlement was pending inal approval by the congregation the Protestant Reformed Church.

The latter congregation -met last Thursday evening and approved the agreement. The majority of the members of both congregations were members of he Protestant Reformed Church of lull at one time. In early September, 1953, a split took place in the congregation. Both groups retained the name of Protestant Reformed Church, with one group meeting in he Community Memorial Building and the other group continuing to hold meetings in the church building. The group which continued to meet in the church building joined with the Christian Reformed denomination in 1961, under the name, the Hope Christian Reformed Church.

In August of 1963 the Protestant Reformed Church, meeting in the ommunity Memorial Building, filed a suit against representative members of the Hope Christian Reformed Church, declaring that the other igroup had elected to affiliate with a church of a different faith and that they continued to use the of the Protestant Reformed Church, and sought rights of repossession. Rather than to settle the case in court, the separate groups appointed committees which met together with their attorneys in. an. effort to gain, a settlement of the consisting mainly of the church building, parsonage, all improvements, -and- grounds, outside of court. An agreement was reached a few weeks a(go the attorneys and which had the immediate approval of the congrega- tioir the Hope Christian.

Attorney representing the Hope Christian Reformed Church is Henry Te Paske of Orange City; attorneys for the Protestant Reformed Church are Ben Vander Kooi of Luverne, Minnesota and Earl Klay of Orange City, Iowa. The Kortering group will continue as members of the corporation which was organized in 1927 while the Matheis group will incorporate as the Hope Christian Reformed Church. The congregation of the Protestant Reformed Church will receive possession of the church building and will hold services there again on July 12, 1964.

The parsonage will continue to be occupied by the Rev. J. Matheis and family until August 1st. He leaves to mourn his passing, his wife the former Lydia Grooters; two daughters, (iLaura) Mrs. Paul Donge- man of Pella, Iowa, and Miss Bonnie of Redlands; and two sons, Russell and Ralph, 'both of Redlands; and two grandchildren. His mother, Mrs. Sing Smit; one brother, Ray; and one sister (Josie) Mrs. Joe Fiihr, all of Boyden, also survive.
