Before long they're back again, Several returnees are playing here tills week. Anil some new shows are supposed to arrive this week, too. Note that "supposed to." Nothing seems definite any more about movie schedules. SOME, such as THE EXORCIST, just stay on.

THE EXORCIST plays for one more week at CINEMA Anybody who doesn't know Hie general theme of THE EXORCIST by now lias been oft climbing Ml. Everest ov some otliev peuk in the Himalayas, and doesn't want lo see the picture anyway, so we won't repeat the theme this week. It's slated to play all week. Hated II. CINEMA 11 is stowing THE MST RETAIL, a story set in a Navy background.

Jack Nicholson and Otis Young play two sailors who are given the duty of escorting a naive young sailor (Handy Qnaid) from their Norfolk base to Portsmouth prison, The 18-year-old is a kleptomaniac and had been caught pilfering petty cash from tin favorite charily of an officer's wife. The two elder fellows feel sony for the younger man and so treat him to all the dubious pleasures they can think of en ruule lo prison. There's a'lot of obscenity, but Die hard hearls of Ihe two older fellows are softened, and you're inclined to forgive some oi their crudity. Rated it. On Friday, CINEMA will start the run of NEWMAN'S George Pcppard plays a tough detective whose arrest of a narcotics pusher catapults him into a larger ring of illicit drug handlers.

Other officers on the force lose their failb in Newman, and lie must fight the criminals alone. Rated PG. THE MAJESTIC is now showing a re-run of OKLAHOMA CRUDE. This George C. Scott film played here about a year ago.

Scott plays a drifter in Oklahoma during oil boom days. Fayc Duiiiiwiiy, a very indo pendant woman, owns a small piece of land which could bring her oil money, but Jack 1'alance as Hie rough oil company boss, tries lo take it from her. Scott helps her, though she thinks she doesn't need his help. Some, very bad language and crude statements. Rated PG.

And on Friday, the MAJESTIC brings back THE STING. This is the film which walked away with Academy Awards, you remember, it's a happy escape into Ihe past, with Rpbert Bedford and Paul Newman as con artists. Scolt Joplin ragtime music adds much lo Ihe pleasure of Ihe film. Rated PG. The PARAMOUNT has held an older Robert Redford picture, JEREMIAH JOHNSON, for another week.

He plays a mountain man he faces all kinds of dangers and difficulties. Rated PG. On Friday, the PARA-. MOUNT changes to PEOPLE- TOYS. There's not much information available on the film yet, but it looks like a horror show.

It -appears that some children have a strange power to turn adults into chess pieces. It's rated R. THE WESTWOOI) is holding THE GREAT GATSBY for another week. This film, too, has been sufficiently described. It's rated PG.

On Friday, toe WESTWOOD plans to bring WHERE THE LILIES BLOOM, a story of courage and determination. Four children living in Ihe Appalachian Mountains are or- phaned. Rather than let the family be divided, the older girls hold the family together. Rated G. The METRO is showing, for its final day on Sunday, CHARIOT OK THE GODS? It's a film documentary, taken from the book, purporting lo show that astronauts lived on the earth long ago.

Rated G. The olhcr film on the double a Is ANGEL UNCHAINED, a niolorcyclc-dunc. buggy-hippie story. The three groups are in conflict. It's rated PG, so the entire show must be considered PG.

The METRO is closed midweek, but will open on Friday and Saturday to show two pictures about Doberman dogs, THE DOBERMAN GANG and THE BAKING DOBERMANS. Five dogs are trained lo commit a robbery. The dogs make off with $2 million in campaign funds in the latter picture. The same dogs perform in both. Rated G.

NEVER AGAIN Nostalgia Play Set in C-City COLORADO CITY (RNS) The nostalgia should he (hick enough to cut with two bare from "Don't Sit Under Ihe Apple Tree" when Colorado City Playhouse opens a (liree-niglit run of "Bear Ruth" nl 8:15 p.m. Thursday in the Old Opry House.

But for most of the cast, the early 1940s arc dim, grey years that mom and dart talk and smile about. Times were "keen'' but not "cool," and were special for those who wore tlicir country's uniform. Olhers in the cast include Larry Debusk as Ruth's mature fiance; Kent Womack as a municipal judge; anil Marsha Moore, Ituby Johnson, Carl Beery Moore, Pat Rcily, Sherry Long and Doug Bisnette. Among many others involved in the production are John Tom Merrill, house manager; Mel Palmer and Hob Bisnette, lighting; Carl Moore, staging and proper- lies. WTC Honors Top Drama Students JACK GI.OVEU in summer music camp Glover Named To McM fcic Camp Faculty Glover, well know in the Abilene area for his choral work, will return to teach voice in Ihe Summer Music Camp for Hand and Choir set June J7-29 at McMurry College.

Boren won best actor for his- portrayal of Jimmy, the angry young nian in "Ixiok Back in Anger." AWARDS for best supporting actress and actor went lo Paula Baldwin Cox and Barry Kinkor for llieir roles of Peppermint Pally and Linus in "You're A Good Man Charlie Brown." Named best character ador was Joe Slubbs, who appeared as Brassed in the opening show, "Charley's Aunt." "Look Back in Anger" was selected best show of the season. Awards were selected by a panel composed of Dr. Ben Brock, Dr. Robert Blacker, Mrs. Robert Clinton, Mike Thornton and Mrs.

Kay Albin, chairman. A special Pa Iron of the Year award was given to Glenn Polk for his servicr.s and inspiration to each cast crew. The awards ceremony and reception followed the school's i of ''Charlie Brown," which closed a five- night run May 11. Directing will be AHS Band Director Bill Spencer, band student teacher Steve Smith from Abilene Christian College and AHS band students Cy Ditmore and Joe Black.
