The Athletics won a game from the Cham plop 6t. Louis at Gloucester, It was onljr ao ezhloltloo contest It doesn't count In the obamplonshlp raoe. Tbe crowd numbered between Ave nud glx thousand.

The people were very enthusiastic over every play that was made, whether It was good or bad, and they laughed and shouted at Latham's comical chatter In the coaching box. Neither olub had out a strong ulue. They played Tor the gate money, and the game was hurried through as fust as possible, neither oaring which lost or won. There were two plichers and catcher, on each nine. Tbe Athletics ullllz'd Ibeirext.ra men, and Farmer played first base, Mattl more left Held, Blair pilched and Townsend wns behind the hat.

Caplulu Ted Larklu played second base and ployed It well. The Browns had Boyle lu centre, Joe Herr on second and Tom Dolan behind tbe bnt, Mitchell pitched his trial game for the champion, and be did very well, although the score will show that he was hit hard. The Athletics batted very hard, but bad Mitchell been properly supported the Athletics' thirteen bits would have been cut down to seven. Mitchell had good command of the ball, and only In one Inning did the Athletics bunch their hits lor earned runs. Blair's left handed curves proved an enigma to the Browns, aud he confined them to seven safe hits, two each being made In the sixth and seventh innings and the other three beiug scattered.

While the game was quickly played there were no Interesting features, except the Athletics' good batting. Lyons nnd Blair led, Willi a two baser and two singles each, and Captain Larklu poked the ball over Tip O'Nell's head twice, and each time for three bases. The ATHI.KTIC. ST. LOUTS.
