In 1878 a building was com- pleted costing about $30,000, con- fsidered one of the best planned iand most substantially built structures in the country. This I building which stood on the pres- ent site of the new home of Rob- jert Brooks, was completely de- Imolished by fire on March 10, 11930. The present McGregor school building was then under construction and it was ready for occupancy by the fall term of that year. In February 1952, by a vote of citizens of the towns of Marquette and McGregor, the school systems of the two towns were united and the Marquette-McGregor Consolidated School District was formed.

Pictured above is the McGregor school that previous generations attended. Constructed in 1878, it was completely destroyed by fire in 1930, only a few months before a new building on lots adjoining park was completed. The center picture shows the ruins of this building.
