2, 1921, in Dun-more, daughter of the late Anthony and Angeline Caglia-no Roberto, she was a member of St. Anthony's Catholic Church, Dunmore. She had been employed as a sales clerk. She was an artist and enjoyed her grandchildren. Surviving are a daughter, Martene A.

August 22, 2008 Joseph Hoffman, a Livingston, N.J., resident for the past 43 years, formerly of Roselle, N.J., died Friday at Morristown Memorial Hospital, Morris-town, N.J. His wife of 46 years is Carol Kelly Hoffman, formerly of Scranton.

Mr. Hoffman retired in 1998 after teaching at Seton Hall Preparatory School in West Orange for 39 years. He was an instructor in Latin II, III and IV, English speech, theatre arts and comparative civilization. He also served as moderator of the Forensic Society from 1960 to 1975 and from 1990 to 1995, during which time his speakers won numerous championships. He produced and was host of "Public Speaking and Youth," a radio series on WSOU-FM, the Seton Hall University radio station.

Mr. Hoffman was moderator of the Tower yearbook and of the mock trial team. He was twice named man of the year, and won the Salvatore Caprio Award for Activities in 1971. At the school's commencement in June of 1999, it was announced that the medal for excellence in speech would now be designated the Joseph Hoffman Speech Medal. He was a third-degree member of the Knights of Columbus Council 3533.

He was a beloved husband and a dear brother. He is also survived by a sister, Judy Hoffman LaBombard and her husband, Paul, Bay-ville, N.J. Relatives and friends are invited to a Mass of Christian Burial celebrating his life Thursday at 10 a.m. in Blessed Sacrament Church, Roseland, N.J. Entombment will follow at Gate of Heaven Mausoleum, East Hanover, N.J.

Vierchinski, 83, of Harding died Monday morning in Mercy Hospi tal. He was preceded in death by his first wife, Ann; and his second wife, Dorothy Born in the Austin Heights section of Old Forge on Oct. 29, 1924, son of the late Ralph and Mary Marhelska Vierchinski, he was a graduate of St. Michael's School, Old Forge. He was a member of St.

Peter's Lutheran Church, Hughestown. Joseph was a paratrooper in the service company 401 Glider Infantry of the Army He served in the 101st Infantry Airborne, stationed in Bastonne, France, and was awarded the Purple Heart during the Battle of Bulge; as well as the American Campaign Medal, Dis-tinguished Unit Badge with clasp; European-African-Middle Eastern Campaign Medal; Good Conduct Medal; and the World War II Victory Medal. Before his retirement in the 70's, he was employed at Schott Optical. In his earlier years, he was a coal miner. Joseph enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, eating the hot dogs at Nardone's in West Pittston and most of all his bingo games.

His great loves were all his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Surviving are his daughters, Marlene Brogan and husband, Joe, Scranton; and Pat Spano, Scranton; stepdaughters, Susan Gratalo and husband, Donald, Hughestown; Tammy Galli and husband, Peter, Pittston a stepson, Michael Homschek, August 24, 2008 Frank Soulsby 86, a resident at the Green Ridge Nursing Cen ter, died Sunday after- -V noon in Mercy Hospital following a brief illness. His wife of 61 years, Alice E. Lesh Soulsby, died Aug. 27, 2007.

Born Oct. 12, 1921, in Scranton, son of the late Robert and Frances L. Price Soulsby he was a graduate of Scranton Technical High School and was an Army Air Corps veteran. He served in the China-Burma-India theater and was honorably discharged as a sergeant with two battle stars. Before retirement in 1987, he was employed for 47 years as a production manager with the Scranton Lace Co.

He was a member of the Major E. J. Poch American Legion Post 948 of Scranton. He was a member of the Moosic Presbyterian Church, where he served as a deacon, trustee and elder of the church. He was active in Boy Scouting for more than 40 years and received the Order of the Arrow Vigil Honor and the Silver Beaver Award from the Forest Lakes Council, Boy Scouts of America.

Surviving are two nieces, Linda Herie, Brandon, and Janet Gruskiewicz, Hammond, two nephews, Robert Soulsby, Scranton; and David Soulsby, Olyphant; grandnieces and grandneph-ews; and his wife's nieces and nephews, especially his caregivers, Steven Lesh and wife, Terry Salem, N.J. He was also preceded in death by a sister, Decima Muir, who died in 2004; and a brother, Robert Soulsby Funeral services will be conducted Friday at noon in the Howard J. Snowdon Funeral Home, 1810 Sanderson Scranton, by the Rev. Susan Ezell, pastor of Moosic Presbyterian Church. Interment with military honors, Fairview Memorial Park, Elmhurst.

His wife of 48 years is the former Bernadine A. Yesulitis. Born June 17, 1938, in Avoca, son of the late William N. and Mary Vols Matechak, he was a member of Sacred Heart of Jesus Church, Dupont, and was a 1957 graduate of Avoca High School. An Army veteran, he was a member of the Browns Social Club, Avoca.

He was previously employed at Hy-Grade Pants Party Time Inc. and Sears Logistics Services before retirement. Also surviving are two children, Michelle Kovaleski and husband, Raymond, Pittston; and Daniel and wife, Deanna, Dupont; a granddaughter, Kay-la Kovaleski; a sister, Florence Pucilowski and husband, Joseph, Avoca; two brothers, Joseph Drouse and wife, Rita, Old Forge; and Charles Matechak and wife, Hedy Benton and Bradenton, aunts, nephews and cousins. Her husband, Charles Slocum, died in 1983. Born in Chinchilla, Betty was a graduate of Moscow High School and was a member of Moscow United Methodist Church. She loved children, and for 40 years, she opened her home and her heart to be a babysitter for numerous children. Betty made these children part of her family Betty was a loving mother, grandmother and great-grandmother who enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren and great-grandchild. She will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved her.

Surviving are a son, Charles Slocum and wife, Robin, Moscow; a son-in-law, Donald Ehrhardt, Moscow; grandchildren, Beth Buser, Moscow; Nicole Slocum, Chicago; and Charles Slocum, Denver; a great-granddaughter, Charlotte Buser; and several nieces and nephews. She was also preceded in death by a daughter, Joan Ehrhardt, in 2003; two grandsons, David Slocum and Stephen Ehrhardt, and several sisters and brothers. The funeral will be private at the convenience of the family in the Brian Arthur Strauch Funeral Home, Route 690 and First Street, Spring Brook with the Rev. Patricia Lee, officiating. His wife of 60 years, the former Margaret Mary Davis, died Dec. 24, 2006. Born April 10, 1927, in Scranton, son of the late Milton and Gwendolin Hopkins James, he was a member of Trinity Episcopal Church, West Pittston, and a graduate of Falls-Over-field High School. Before his retirement in 1992, he was employed by Bill, to all who knew him, began to worship at Trinity Episcopal Church in 2004, where the congregation and the pastor, the Rev. John Major and his wife, Sandy, welcomed him with open arms.

The Lord reached out to touch his soul on Tuesday morning with his daughter, Nancy by his side. Our "funnyman" will be remembered by all as a comedian and jokester, but also as a gentle soul who loved his family with all of his heart. His greatest joys were visits from his children, grandchildren and most of all his great-grandchildren. Their "Poppy" would simply light up at the mere sight of the little ones. For the majority of his life he resided at Lake Winola, a place he held close to his heart.

He was proud to be the husband of his wife, Margaret Mary Davis James, for 60 years. They had four children together and shared a wonderful life with each other. His dearest friends are Mickey and Jim Snyder of Lake Winola. They are beautiful and kind people who have extended their friendship to the entire family and we appreciate everything they have done for "Billy Bones" as they had adoringly referred to him. Surviving are a daughter, Nancy Farinella and husband, Sam, Plains; two sons, Robert James, Lake Winola; and William James, Black Walnut; two granddaughters, Tracy Bogdon and husband, Christopher, Larksville; Amanda Mentele and husband, Nick, South Dakota; a grandson, Cody James and wife, Amy, South Dakota; great-grandchildren, Michael and Brayden Bogdon and Isabel and Gage Mentele; a sister, Judy Hunter and husband, John; nieces and nephews.

He was also preceded in death by a daughter, Doris James Livsey; and a son-in-law, Robert Livsey Funeral services will be Friday at 11 a.m. in Trinity Episcopal Church, 220 Montgomery West Pittston, to be celebrated by the Rev. Tiffany August 25, 2008 Edna M. Tiffany, 79, formerly of Kingsley, died Monday morning at home in Montrose. She was the wife of Carl J. Tiffany who died Jan. 20, 1983.

Born Aug. 12, 1929, in Johnson City, N.Y., she was the daughter of the late Wines and Leolia Cary Hallstead. Surviving are a son, Carl Tiffany Montrose; and two grandsons, Robert and George Ralston. She was also preceded in death by a son, Oscar Tiffany; and a daughter, Ena Ralston. Cremation arrangements by Shifler-Parise Funeral Home, Clifford.
