Schoolboy Basketball: Champion At Defending, Too Rockets Seek Repeat Title Grab won the first-half in a playoff with Lebanon, are 8-0 and one game ahead of the Cedars in the second-half race. Lebanon hosts Yorks dethroned Bearcats tonight. The Adams-Franklin calls it quits with Greencastles Western Division winners at Fairfield, New Oxfords Eastern Division titlists home to James Buchanan, Fan-nett-Metal at Littlestown, St. Thomas at Bermudian and Quincy at Scotland. Greencastle will compet in the PLAA District Three Class Tournament while New Oxford and Scotland, the Western runnerup, are slated for Class Westminster (11-10) and Aberdeen tangle at Woodlawn High in Baltimore County with the winner advancing in Maryland Class A competition to the District One finals at Hagerstown on Saturday.

Tonights game starts at 8:30. Spring Grove is a slight favorite in its showdown with Kennard-Dale, mainly on the basis of the Rockets' 77-60 regular-season conquest of the Rams. Coach Bob Garretts cagers are riding the crest of a 15-game win skein while Kennard-Dale bounced back from that loss to Spring Grove and has won its last seven. The Rockets beat out Northeastern for the Western Division diadem while the Rams took the East by a three-game margin over York Suburban and Dallastown. Camp Hill puts a 17-game victory string on the line against Big Spring.

The Lions havent been beaten since they dropped a 52-40 decision to Big Spring in Blue Mountain first-half firing. They avenged that loss with a 37-32 decision the second time around. Westminster may surprise in the Maryland playoffs. The Owls wound up their regular card in a blaze of glory with impressive victories over Delone, North Hagerstown and Tri-State Conference champion Martinsburg all clubs which clipped the Owls in earlier engagements. Regular-season finales are listed tonight in the Central Penn League, with William Penn of Harrisburg in position to sew up the title; the Adams-Franklin Conference, which already has named division champs, and the Central Penn Catholic League, where Bishop McDevitt of Harrisburg and Sbamokin Lourdes are awaiting plans for a championship playoff.

The Catholic wheel wrapup has Delone at Lancaster. The Squires need this one to top .500 for the campaign. They go into action with a 10-10 over-all mark. Key game as the Central Penn League drops the curtain on its regular schedule is Cedar Cliff at Harrisburg Penn. The Tigers, who The York County and Blue Mountain Leagues crown their 1962 -63 champions, regular-season play comes to a close in three area circuits, and Westminster enters district combat down Maryland way along the schoolboy basketball front tonight.

Spring Grove 21-11 and Ken-nard-Dale (18-4) collide at Dallas-tifwn in a repeat of the 1961-62 York County League title tilt, which was won by the Rockets, 65-58. Tapoff is 7:30. The Blue Mountain champion -gtoip goes on the line at 8 at Mech-anicsburg where Big Spring (19-3) and Camp Hill (18-2), titlist last season and the year before, come together. APs Top Ten: Cincinnati Still In Front But Duke Is Closing Fast Stu Miller Gone: Briton Eves Lightweight Title Crack By JOHN FARROW Associated Press Sports Writer MANCHESTER, England (AP) -Dave Charnley, British lightweight boxing champion, basked in the glory of his finest victory today and said: Now let me get at Carlos Ortiz for the world title. At Manchesters Beele Vue Stadium Monday night, the 27-year-old London hairdresser dealt a devastating sixth-round knockout to his old enemy, Joe Brown ol Baton Rouge, who held the world crown for six years until Ortiz took it last April. The victory put Charnley right ir. line for a shot at Ortiz. And it could mean the end for Brown, 37, one of the great figures in boxing since World War II.

Brown had defeated Charnley twice before in world title bouts. The knockout came after 2 minutes 45 seconds of the sixth round, Brown admitted that he had suffered a serious setback in his hopes for a return crack at Ortiz I dont know exactly what happened, he said. I think Charnleys fist went into my eye in the sixth round. My left eyeball hurts badly. This blurred my vision.

I had a verbal contract with Ortiz that I would get another chance if I did well against Dave. Now perhaps he will get the chance instead. Charnley weighed 136 pounds, Brown 134A. NIT Field To Seven As Billikens Get Bid NEW YORK (AP) The St. Louis Billikens, current runner-up to champion Cincinnati in the Missouri Valley Conference, will compete in the National Invitation Basketball Tournament for the 11th time.

Ken Norton, chairman of the NIT selection committee, announced Monday night the acceptance of St. Louis as the seventh team to complete in the projected 12-team tourney at Madison Square Garden March 14-23. Bullpen Worries Giants A1 Dark PAGE 8 Manager Billy Hitchcock Indicated today that Brandt will be the Orioles regular center fielder and will be installed as the No. 2 man in the batting order until someone beats him out. The 28-year-old former National Leaguer shuffled around left, center and right fields for Baltimore in 1962 and even played third base.

At the plate he hit second, third, fifth and sixth. Bob Kennedy, head coach of the Chicago Cubs, also named his teams starting center fielder Monday. Rookie Nelson Mathews who batted .368 in the minors last season, has been tabbed for the post with sophomore Lou Brock slated, to move to right field to fill the vacancy caused by the trade of George Altman. Other happenings on the spring training front: Pitcher Jim Constable of Milwaukee Braves suffered a bruised nose when a foul caromed off the batting cage and hit him in the face Harmon Killebrew, the American Leagues home run and RBI leader, checked into the Minnesota Twins camp two days ahead of the full squad Rookie Nate Oliver, who is expected to take over second base for the Los Angeles Dodgers, was told to rest for a week after an examination showed his weight had dropped to 153 pounds. Brandt, who did more wandering than a gypsy, couldnt get untracked as Baltimore finished seventh. He wound up with a .255 batting mark, 42 points lower than his average in 1961 when the Orioles were third. his defending National League champion Giants this season. He's more worried about finding that relief pitcher to put out the enemy fire. Other than the bullpen, and the determination of a fifth starting pitcher, the Giants 1963 lineup appears set a far cry from Darks first season as manager in 1961 when he started spring training saying Willie Mays was the only starting certainty.

Asked whether his Giants with the stand-pat lineup might suffer a letdown after winning the pennant in 1962, the former shortstop and team captain who now manages the club declared: I dont believe in complacency. In the four previous years, no National League team repeated after winning a pennant. "I think this year it will be just the opposite of complacency, Dark asserted. The Giants had been knocking to win a pennant since 1959. Now that theyve done it, I think this club will work even harder to stay where it is.

And its going to be tougher this year than last. As the Giants completed their first day with the full squad in spring training Monday, Dark searched for a short-inning relief pitcher to do the job the Giants assigned Stu Miller in past seasons. Miller went to Baltimore along with Mike McCormick in the trade that brought right-hander Jack Fisher and southpaw Billy Iloeft to the Giants. Hoeft, after 11 seasons in the American League, may be the reliever Dark seeks. Or, said Dark, the job might be filled by Gaylord Ferry, younger brother of Cleveland's starter Jim Perry.

The poll, announced Monday and based on games through last Saturday, marked the 14th straight week the Bearcats have been No.

The 6-foot-8 junior who under-studied the celebrated Jerry Lucas last season is the spotlighted performer for Ohio States Buckeyes now, and he is carrying off the role superbly. Bradds put on a typical show Monday night, netting 13 of Ohio States last 16 points as the Buckeyes topped Northwestern 50-45 on the Wildcats floor.

The victory was a clutch one, keeping Ohio State tied for the Big Ten lead with Illinois. The Illini shook loose in the closing moments and won at Minnesota 81-70, leaving the Gophers with only a mathematical chance to tie for the conference championship. Indiana's hopes also were dashed in a 102-96 loss at Wisconsin. Ohio State and Illinois are 9-2 with three games left, Indiana is 7-4 and Minnesota 7-5. Mississippi State nailed down no less than a share of the Southeastern Conference crown, posting a 78-67 victory at Tulane, while Georgia Tech took sole possession of second place by winning at home against Florida, 89-69.

Auburn dropped to third in a 55-47 setback at Tennessee.
