Saturday afternoon, December 24th, A MERRY CHRISTMAS. Despite the financial depression that is a temporary worry to our people at the present time, we feel that this is going to be one the most cheerful Christmastides this nation has ever witnessed.

The real. American rises above the sordid things at this period of the year, and the greatness and hopefulness of the outlook for the fu-ture must impress him now as the most beautiful vista of peace and good will in the history of the world. The wonderful success of the peace conference, coming as it does when the world's eye is directed toward the lowly manger of Bethlehem, is inspiring more of the sentiment of "peace on earth, good will to men" than las ever before come to the nations of earth. Out of the darkness of the greatest upheaval has developed a new star that is guiding the wise men of our time to a new appreciation of the greatness and goodness of God's Iowa supreme court, the judge finds himself in an embarrassing position, as that court decided the constitution of Iowa imposes jury service on voters as a duty, and it is not a privilege to be accepted or refused at the whim of the individual. "Under supreme court decision it is the duty officials to draw women on juries oust the same as men, and it is also the duty of women to serve on juries, exactly as it is the duty of a male voter.

Judge Roekafeller may also hear from the women voters of his district in the nest election. They may entertain Jdeas of their as to his fitness for the bench, similar to his ideas 'ot their eligibility to jury service. And now the doctrine of love anil peace seems to have come into its own in a very marked degree, and' peoples are striving to demons trate their faith in the Christmas child and his misson, in a larger and sense than ever before. Rejoicing in that spirit, 'and believing in its fullest fruition, with our hearts full of good will our large family of readers, the Union- Republican this week carries to our friends our heartiest expression the sentiment of the season, love and good cheer abound in your i homes!
