KQED CHANNEL 9 KNTV CHANNEL 11 KPIX CHANNEL 8 KGO TV CHANNEL 7 Changes are occurring in local radio and television which will most definitely change things as far as th viewer listeners are concerned. The other day I dropped by KPIX to find that the Westinghouse station had done some serious chopping of their personnel and as a result three top and well known personalities have been taken off, or are going off the air shortly. Del Courtney, the eldest personality on the station was given his notice, although Del is in a hospital at Lake Tahoe suffering from chest ailment. Court ney will confine himself to his orchestra and radio work from now on. Dave Allen, "Deputy Dave" to hundreds of thousands of bay area kiddies, has been retired as the perennial sheriff of KPIX.

The other victim of the cut was Paul Speegle who had been doing an excellent job on "Money Tree." Also dropped has been Dorothy Day. Apparently somebody looked at KPIX's income and budget and decided that costs were too high, at any rat the station has made a drastic cut in things. THE LUCKIEST MAN in the greup was Charlie Dugdale who, but for the reluctance on. the part of Speegle to arise at 5 o'clock, also would be out of a Job. It's to be hoped that Charlie heeds the warning.

Not only are things happening over KPIX but KGO radio has seen the inevitable occur. The guy who brought "rock 'n' roll" programming to KGO TV, Gil Paltridge, got his walking papers the other day, Gil didn't go without kicking a bit, however. He claimed that ABC hadn't given his new form of programming enough time to prove itself. Actually the losi sustained by KGO radio since it became the "New KGO" ran about $100,000, Prior to trying something that Just wouldn't go over in San Francisco, KGO did show a modest profit. THERE HAS BEEN TOO much of this type of programming in the bay area.

Had KGO been the first, there is no question that it would have succeeded. However, KYA, KOBV and several other stations had given it a whirl. There are four or five disc jockeys at KGO who aant see their future too clearly. The word is that ABC will probably buy up their contracts and send them to mora lush meadows, TONY MARVIN, long the fall guy for Arthur God. frey, strikes out on his own shortly.
