He said they asked him vacate the premises and he did. He ended his statement by saying, "I am sure this killing could have been avoided because there were two policemen in uniforms and about two plain clothes policemen. I feel that a trained policewoman should have been able to handle a 60 year-old man." Charles Henry Underwood was the fifth Black male sentenced to death by white Stakeout Det. Daniel P.

Bowens in the last 30 months. The Internal Investigation Divi- sion has cleared Bowens of 'any wrong doing despite the fact that Underwood was shot eight times with a .38. Bowens shot Underwood who was unarmed while he was allegedly attempting to rob a couple in a parking lot at 150 Carnegie Way. Bowens has since been relieved ofduty and given a desk job. Further research by the Bird disclosed that four of Bowen's five victims had been shot at least seven times.

The issued service revolver holds only six rounds. The Atlanta Police Department have had a busy summer this year saving Blacks the time and trouble of the slow due process of law. Diamond Lloyd was killed inpark-tag lot of a Spencer Street church after being chased through the neighborhood of Vine City. Narcotics squad detective C. E.

Harris fired and killed Lloyd when he stopped and pulled a gun from a paper bag he had been carrying. According to detectives Lloyd broke and ran when he was approached by one of the officers. Police say Lloyd threw one sack down which contained suspected heroin and marijuana. Harris said he twice called for Lloyd to drop Ms gun but he refused. When Lloyd started to turn and face the officers Harris Bred one shot striking in the right back shoulder.

Many more cases will be tried in the streets before the year is over. "What I can't understand is that the Atlanta Police Department is suppose to be well trained," said Youngblood. "If he was violent, think two policemen could have subdued him without killing him." As of this writing there have been 183 homicides so far this year in Atlanta, with the majority of them Black. The police have killed 13 persons this year and 10 of those are Black. The police department In Atlanta has taken on the role of the judge, jury and executioner.

Ernest Hllson had his case tried on the streets of Atlanta, August 6 and was sentenced to death by police officer J.W. Carlisle. Hllson, a 60 year-old construction worker was killed after he allegedly tried to molest a 23-year-old white STAKE-OUT According to police reports Hllson kept making advances at policewoman Carla Waite, who said she ignored them. Hllson then got out of his car, pursued her and caught up with her and her blouse. The report further stated that he took her gun and pulled out a knife.

Several officers came to Waite's aid after she screamed, she said. According to police reports, officer Sibis-ki was shot in the leg by Hllson. Hllson then reportedly ran over to Whitehall Street and started to cross the street. Police say that Carlisle yelled at Hllson to stop and when he failed to yield Carlisle shot him in the eye. Two witnesses were reported as saying in the Bird that they saw Hilson limping across the street when all at once they heard shots and saw Hllson fall to the street.

Both witnesses said that Hllson was not carrying a gun and said they saw police search Hilson and find no gun. According to police homicide investigators they found one "nearby." Ned Williams, who was one of the witnesses to file a By HAROLD 4X (ANDREWS) United States Senator Herman Talmadge, son of the roaming suspender wearing Eugene Talmadge of Georgia in the 40's with an uiti-Negro crusade, who flew a Bahamian vacation aboard a private jet owned by a major government contractor, has to be considered a "sacred institution in Georgia." Talmadge, a U.S. Senator whose salary comes from the taxpayers, was one of the severest critics of the late Rep. Adam Clayton Powell's European junkets. The Washington Star-News reported that Rockwell international, major defense and aerospace contractor who has a plant In Albany, sponsored Talmadge's February 9 flight to the Caribbean.

An insight into the reported junket was squashed by Jie white established Atlanta news media when Talmadge's press secretary said the Senator feels there is no reason to comment on the Star-News story, and that he doubted Talmadge would have any official explanation. However, later Sen. Talmadge said in a news release, "there is no law prohibiting or anything immoral about riding in a man's airplane, his automobile, his boat, or accepting his hunting and fishing Invitation." "Al Rockwell has a plant in Albany, and a farm in Baker County. I broke the ground in his plant, along with Sen Russell's. I have hunted quail with him on many occasions.

He asked me to go fishing with him and I did." Talmadge serves on the Select Committee on Standards These fact along would never make me want to live near white people, because I would be fearful of them getting my husband or involved in some of their schemes. What the white reporters will do Is interview the poor Black people who live in project communities and go out in Buckhead and interview the rich white people. Naturally these Black people have problems because there are so many clustered together. There are many Black peo pie living in quiet communities and they are not left overs by whites. I am thinking about Hunter Road and the Collier Drive Area.

White people never want to see the good side of the Black people. They always look for the bad things. Do you think that the greatest man in the history of baseball (Hank Aaron) will get as Thanhs to Dear Editor, I would like to begin to thank the Black citizens of Atlanta, who cooperated tremendously by coming together and reacting positively for a worthy cause. I am referring to the summer of 1972 when I was struggling to get back into College. For the brothers and sisters of Atlanta I must admit that I am in a very competitive environment.

I have been able to engage in the political activities of long Island University. I am pre-. sently treasurer of the dorm; I am also director of community sources and an active staff member of WLIU radio station (campus located station). As far as the grading progress is concerned, I am holding a average. Hopefully, I'll be graduating in I hope to make many achievements geared directly toward my people.

I feel that society now is a downhill- climb of for my brothers and sisters, but, in the time period of my college career I've had the opportunity to pray, concentrate, and meditate, and by doing so I have received a positive gift from God. This Program for Vets discharge into a honorable discharge. We feel that this will be a great help to We will show them the way how to receive this benefit while in prison. There are so many inmates in these institution who, don't know the rights. If anyone would like to make any comments on this program, you may write to us at the address below: Sincerely Sincerely yours, Edward McArthur-95817-131 Eldson McGhee 29915-138 U.S.

Penitentiary P.O. Box 33 Terre Haute, 47808 Dear Sir: I am writing to you because I know what I have to say would never be printed in a white newspaper. am filled up to my neck with the insults that the Atlanta Journal and the Constitution have been publishing about the Black communities all this week. Its time for us Black people to speak out and let the white devils know that we all don't fall in the same category. There are more hard working Black people than there are robbers, there are more honest Black people than there are dishonest.

The white people want to justify their moving to the country by saving that they are afraid of the Black people. This is not the true reason. Many hard working lonest Black people have loved into the white com-i unities only to have the hites run like they are razy. The reason they run because they are preju-e and are fearful of the ck person reaching his ievement level. nother reason the white 'e don't mind running is because they are mak-t fortune by selling theii to Black people.

The nment which is run shonest whites over ap-e their property and look- what problems t. When a white person a home it is in perfect ditlon and the next week in a Black moves in water gins pouring from the ceil-g. I know because I bought ne. I want to set the facts straight by saying, I was not trying to integrate a neighborhood because I am afraid of them too. There are too many white freaks walking around.

I read only three weeks ago about the white man in Florida killing several young people after having a wild sex party. One of the bodies was cemented in a wall. This past week 27 young men were found burled after they had beer killed by some white freaks. This is enough to scare the life out of any parents whe have young sons. And of course many of our young Black men have been killed because of the white women lying about them being raped.

Prisoners Operate Dear Editor, Edwards McArthur Eld-son McGhee have organize a program in the United States Penitentiary at Terre Haute, Indiana, Prisoner's Veterans Association. This program is designed to work with ex -veterans in corporation with it will help return with such things as Education, G. I. Bills, Loans, corporation with the veterans administration of Indiana. It will help veterans with such things as Education, G.

I. Bills, Loans, job placement after release from prison and to help veterans who perhaps receive a dishonorable discharge, try to convert his much publicity as Black crime has. I can give you the answer, No. I would like to make an appeal to the young people. Please quit using drugs of any form, quit robbing and killing your Black brothers.

Because these are the things white people like to hear about us. They want to look down upon us as the scum of the earth. And after they have all run to the country let us Black people build Atlanta into the fine city that we want it to be. I want to challenge all Black parents to teach their children to love and respect their Black race. We are going to have to live together, work together and also worship together.

Integration will never work. My sincere thanks to the Editor, J. C. of Atlanta Atlantans gift is going to be administered gradually by me. The finding of the advanced association for the physically handicapped incorporated is going to be carried out and enforced to the fullest extent.

I am functioning on a positive basis in order to make the necessary preparations to expand the God-gifted drive, determination, and strong constitution to manage within this evil and corrupted so-called civilization. The almighty dollar cannot and will not interest me in any way. I intend to become weal-' thy when I am able to get unification among my disabled brothers and sisters. Thank You, Rev. Calvin Peterson Integration Called Scheme Dear Editor: There it was in the very first paragraph of "The Two Atlantas (Black and white) Living in Limbo," in the At- lanta Journal-Constitution, August 12.

The slang term for Negro was used TWO DIFFERENT TIMES! Two times, mind you, in that first paragraph. And, as usual, the writers used this term under -the pretense of "quoting someone else." a someone never identified. But those writers knew very well what they were up to. Their use of this insulting, hated slang term is a sinister trick to inflame the Blacks, and to create sympathy from the whites. Thus the mood was set, for them to bemoan the fact about there still being two Atlantas, that there was very little "integration." Certainly there is an Atlanta Black Community and an Atlanta white community, just as there is an Atlanta Jewish Community, because normal people have certain preferences for their own kind.

And it is just as right and good for Blacks anc whites to declare this on a racial basis as it is for our Jewish citizens to proclaim their right to ethnic identity with their Jewish this -or that organization or institution, which identifying name can only be interpreted as the covert exclusion of others. Our country is made up of many races, nationalities, religious, cultures. We are unified in citizenship only. And we love our neighbor as ourselves in our race relations when we have high regard for each variety of mankind with their identities, qualities and cultures, when we work together and aid and cooperate, but never a thought that God's children need to conglomerate. This is proper love for I WML MSM Continued From lot on Spring and Nassau St.

where the accident occured, said that the newspapers version was all wrong. He said, "The man was sick and I didn't Bee any pills or spray. The police made us (witnesses) get into the car right away and took us off to the station so we could not talk to anyone." "I only saw the raid can when it was brought down to the police station as evidence." "They wanted me to sign a blank statement down there (police station). The guy said he made a lot of typing errors, so he said I could just sign a blank form he would type it later. Anyone who signs a blank form has to be stupid." McClain went on to express his lack of faith in the Atlanta Newspapers.

The entire source of the Atlanta newspaper reports involving crime comes from police re ports and police statements as a reporter testified recently in a preliminary city court trial. As usual, in all police shootings, the case will be turned over to the internal investigations division, which simply means that we won't hear of it again. The two cops, L. B. Cook and M.D.

Barnett were seen on the same beat the following day. Youngblood was a former city employee who attempted to contact Mayor Sam Massell about "job discrimination" two days before his death. However, no one answered Youngblood' complaint. A group of Black citizens went to City Hall and disputed the police and newspaper version of the incident. However, City Hall has never responded to Black citizens' concern about police shooting Blacks.

"The thing that we're concerned about was that Young-', blood was provoked in the action that he took," said former Atlanta policeman Ron Loving, who led the delegation to City Hall. Youngblood's father told the Voice that he has been disturbed by the way police have handled the matter. Mr. Youngblood said he didn't receive any call from the police concerning his son's death. Mrs.

Young-' blood told the Voice she was contacted by "a guy at some funeral home." The youth's father stated that he hasn't been notified on the findings of the autospy report. MART A Selects Bus Shelter Sites for City MARTA has selected locations for the 104 new bus shelters to be installed by May 1, 1974. The bus shelters will be constructed of an aluminum frame and durable clear plastic panels. Some shelters will be equipped with benches; 71 shelters will be 6 feet wide by 10 feet long, with side panels displaying the brither MARTA colors. The )ther 33 will bel2 feet long.

Any stop where 80 or more people board a bus daily was considered as a potential location for a shelter. Other criteria included width of side walk, type of buildings nearby, visibility, lighting, and physical terrain. MARTA General Manager Alan F. Klepper cites the shelter program as another improvement in transit service for local citizens. "The shelters wijl mean greater convenience for patrons, and businesses will experience less crowding in doorways near bus stops when weather is bad," he said.

"The shelters are part of MARTA's Short Range Program, and are another step in the fulfillment of MARTA's promise to provide the residents of Fulton and DeKalb Counties with the best transit system in the world," Klepper concluded. Bids will be solicited In the next few weeks from firms wishing to compete for the contract to build and install the shelters. For information, contact Julius A. McKanders, director of contracts and procurement for MARTA Act 522-4460, our fellowman put to work. Rather than promote discord and turmoil between Blacks and whites with this scheme called "integration," leave them alone to pursue their own happiness with their own kind, which is only normal.

In this way there is hope for better understanding, goodwill and true brotherhood. Sincerely; T. J.
