UNCF funds are used to provide student scholarships and financial aid, faculty endowments, and campus capital improvements. More than 9000 students attending six Atlanta colleges benefit from UNCF. Williams said for every dollar raised locally, the national United Negro College Fund will contribute $5. Their promoter was literally going crazy getting each arrested member out of jail, and keeping the'whole thing as quiet as'he could, and has sworn he will never ever in life again bring this group to Europe for a concert tour. To add insult to injury and really let the cat out of the bag, U.S.A. Today Newspaper just published a news item about one of the principal memoes of the group being arrested in Los Angeles follow ing his return home from Europe on drug tch, tch, A 14-member citizens panel headed up by Mayor Tom Bradley and Police Chief Daryl Gates heard testimony last week for three hours on the need for community awareness and involvement combined with law enforcement to solve the durg epidemic in the state building in Van Nuys, California. This same panel was made aware that the number of people who use cocaine monthly in America has soared from an estimated 4.2 million in 1982 to 12.2 million this year by a federal drug enforcement official testifying before the panel, Actor Edward James Olmos, who plays the role of Lt. Martin Castillo on the television series "Miami Vice," an-and who has been a spokesman for the Florida group called Informed Families, urged the paned to promote grassroots movement against drugs.

The panel will produce a report and suggestions on curbing the drug problem, and a similar panel meeting was scheduled to take place in South-Central Los Angeles. Meanwhile word from Nu Yawk has it that veteran recording artist and record producer Hannibal is about to release a potent anti-drug message record entitled "Is The Whole World Crackin' Up." In Florida the state wide General Baptist Convention, under the leadership of Dr. Henry J. He'll be seen in "You Be The Jury" with a follow up role in Universal's "I Saw What You Did." Actor Ernie Hudson who I'm sure you remember from "Ghost Busters" is currently in Wrightsville, North Carolina, filming a new movie, and will take the time off to be with Roger E. Mosley and a number of other Hollywood Celebrities when they jet into Tampa, Florida to participate in the First Annual Roger E. Mosley Celebrity Sports Weekend for the benefit of the Hillsborough County Center of Excellence, June 4th through June 7th. Hollywood is still talking about the opening night bash Paramount Pictures put on for Eddie Murphy's "Beverly Hills Cop which is projected to rack up better than $200-millino at the box offices. It's already made motion picture history by opening at more than 2,300 theatres across the country in the first weekend of showing. Byron Stripling who for the last three years has been the lead trumpet player for the Count Basie Orchestra has been selected to play the lead in the upcoming international touring musical about the life and music of Louis "Satchmo" Armstrong. Stripling a 25-year old Atlanta native auditioned in Angeltown in one of the open calls staged across the country by play writer-director Jerry Bilik in search of an authentic jazzman to capture the spirit of Armstrong in "Satchmo. Musical Legend." If you rcalls news about Byron Stripling having the edge for the parts was etched in "Ebony" a number of weeks now its a Celebrity tennis mathces will play a big role in the 100 year celebration of Hollywood June 6th at the Los Angeles Racquet Club.
