The expected loss of audience to KNTV is estimated at a total of 8.6 per cent. This loss should be more than overcome by the normal population growth of the area, he said.

Gilliland says his report to the city council and board of supervisors "has dealt with the true facts regarding the situation that exists in Sal-inas-Alisal and has not dealt with the broad subject or generalities of the relationship between local broadcasters and community antenna systems." Uncle of Salinas Man Succumbs At Age of 100 Funeral services for the Rev. John Robert, 100, uncle of Dan Mathews of 113 San Gabriel drive, were held yesterday in Burbank. The retired Lutheran minister had served parishes in Kansas and other Midwest sectors and also had worked as a missionary with the Indians. For the last several years, he had made his home with his daughter, Mrs. Dolce Gil-mour, in Burbank where he passed away suddenly Saturday.

Surviving relatives include a niece, Mrs. Arthur Jack, of Point Lobos. $5,600 Prizes Set In Crafts and Arts SACRAMENTO LPI North KNTV, Channel II of San Jose, and Jerrold Electronics have teamed together in the Central Coast TV Cable company in applying for franchise to operate a community antenna television system in Salinas and the unincorporated areas of Monterey county. Channel II has equally as much at stake as does KSBW, Channel 8, and its twin station, KSBY, at San Luis Obis-pe, according to Allen T. Gilliland, president of the new company, and Channel 11 has no fear of losing any network programs as a result of CATV.

We can see absolutely no reason to believe that the conditions for KSBW-Y Channel 8 should be any different, he said. According to Gilliland, KSBW-Y is a single broadcast facility utilizing two transmitters, thus making it impossible for a national advertiser or network to buy or place a program on anything but two transmitters. Gilliland says that 61 per cent of KNTV Channel lls viewing audience is in this area, and that only 54 per cent of KSBW-Y Channel 8s is in this area during the prime viewing time (which includes all of the important network programs). When the entire broadcast day (9 a.m. to midnight) is taken into ac-count, 52 per cent of KSBW-Y Channel 8s audience is in this area, with 50 per cent for KNTV Channel 11.

Gilliland supports his data with figures supplied by the Los Angeles office of the American Research Bureau based on November, 1961, ARB reports for each of the individual markets. Cited is a list of programs carried by KNTV Channel 11 from the CBS and NBC networks such as Chet Hunt-ley, Father Knows Best and Alfred Hitchcock. All of these programs were first offered to KSBW-Y and were refused by that station, according to Gilliland. KNTV is carrying them in addition to its ABC schedule. Gilliland contends that att 99 Million Consumers Read a Daily Newspaper Each Weekday These readers make up the largest audience available to any advertiser in any medium.

A recent study of this national newspaper audience shows that it includes 80 per cent of all men and women over 21 and S' 72 per cent of all teen-agers, age 15 and over. This huge and consistent readership can be depended upon by advertisers because the daily newspaper is a habit with most people an established part of their everyday lives. For the national advertiser, this amounts to almost the total market for any product. For the local advertiser, this massive readership symbolizes the local reach of his own local newspaper into almost 9 out of 10 homes every day. No matter what the product or service an advertiser wants to sell, more people can read about it in the pages of the daily newspaper.
