Hays was paid a flat fee of $400 for each public hearing she presided over. Love-Bush said she is conferring with Aladean M. DeRose, deputy city attorney and legal counsel to the commission, over how to go about replacing Hays. Hays was retained by the commission in July.

The Human Rights Commission investigates complaints of illegal discrimination based on race, religion, sex or handicap. Cases investigated by the commission generally involve housing and employment. wanted sign is out at the Human Rights Commission. The commission is searching for someone to replace Jackie Goldrick, a commissioner who resigned last month, and Deborah Hays, who resigned this month as hearing officer. Goldrick resigned because she was moving out of the area.
