B6 Wednesday, March 7, 2018 Billings gazette 1 STATE Josephine Oset Ferguson Our loving mother, Jose- phine Oset Ferguson, passed away peacefully on March 3, 2018. Jo or Josie as she was known was born in Roundup to Frank and Mary Oset on sept. 9, 1926. Frank and Mary had emigrated from austria and slovenia respectively. Jo was most proud of her slovenian heritage and spoke fluent slo- venian as a second language well into later life.

Jo was always very per- sonable to all. she touched a great number of people and made many life-long friends in Roundup, Billings and else- where. she will be dearly missed by all who remain. she grew up in Round- up, graduating from Round- up High at the top of her class. she went through training and served with the army nurs- es Corps in great Falls where she met her future husband, Wayne Ferguson, who was sta- tioned at the airbase there during the war.

after they were married they settled in Round- up where they raised their three children, Frank, Kathleen and Michie. Jo worked in hospitals, courthouses and libraries, and was the accountant for business. But her main job was raising her children and being a caregiver for her fam- ily. Upon retiring they moved to Billings and became mem- bers of east gate Wesleyan Church and enjoyed the company of their many friends. Jo was an avid reader throughout her life sometimes read- ing several books a week and no morning was complete with- out her Billings gazette.

she did thousands of crosswords, sometimes complaining if they challenging enough. she is survived by her son, Frank and his partner tommie schmidt, daughter, Kathleen and her husband John Bobinski and her grandchildren, Matthew, adam and eileen Bobinski. she was preceded in death by her husband Wayne and her son Michie and his wife Dalauna. Cremation has taken place and memorial services will be held at east gate Wesleyan Church at a later date. she will be interred with her husband Wayne at Mountview Cemetery.

Condolences may be shared by visiting www.michelottisaw- yers.com. Georgiana Fischer georgiana Fischer, 67, of Billings, passed away unex- pectedly on March 3, 2018.

georgie was born on Dec. 8, 1950, in Dickinson, north Da- kota, to george and elizabeth (Maslowski) Dutchak. she was raised in Belfield, north Dako- ta. she married Jim Fischer on sept. 21, 1968.

george and Jim were blessed with three chil- dren: lynn, lony and leslie. george is survived by her husband; children lynn (Rich) Pauley, lony (Marie) and les; siblings terry Dutchak, Clem Dutchak, Rosie Hurt and Paulette Dutchak; and her moth- er, elizabeth. she was preceded in death by her father george; and sib- lings arnold and sebastian Dutchak and Marcella Haworth. Vigil services will be at 7 p.m. thursday, March 8, at Mi- chelotti-sawyers Mortuary, 1001 alderson ave.

Funeral Mass will be at 10 a.m. Friday, March 9, at st. thomas the apostle, 2055 Woody Drive. Rite of committal will follow at sunset Me- morial gardens. Michelotti-sawyers is assisting with arrangements and re- membrances may be left online at www.michelottisawyers.com.

Donna Jean Kibbe (Thuesen) Donna Jean Kibbe (thuesen), 70, passed into the arms of her lord on March 1, 2018, after a short, courageous battle with Ovarian Cancer. she will be greatly missed by every- one that had the joy and privi- lege of meeting her. Donna was born to Rog- er and Cecelia thuesen on June 28, 1947, in Billings. she attended school in Billings, graduating from West High in 1965. she then attended east- ern Montana College where she met John Kibbe.

they married in December of 1967, and they had 2 sons Mike and David. Donna was a stay at home Mom until Mike and David were in school full time, after returning to work she found a great work family at st. Vincent Healthcare where she worked in their business office until her retirement in 2011. Donna was very active in her Church, Peace lutheran un- til the time of her death helping with Bible school when her children were little and again when her grandkids went to Bible school. she enjoyed spending time with her family and friends.

she was an avid cross stitcher and enjoyed crochet- ing. if you had a baby you would surely receive a beautiful af- ghan from Donna. Donna was preceded in death by her parents Roger and Cecelia thuesen. she is survived by her 2 sons Mike (Jen) Kibbe of laurel and David Kibbe of Billings; 4 brothers Bob (Pat) thuesen of sheridan WY, Ron (Vicki) thuesen of Missoula, Rich (Carol) thuesen of Polson, and Russ (linda) thuesen of Billings. and 1 sister Diane (Curtis) Harper of Riverton WY; 3 grandchil- dren nate Kibbe of iowa, Rylee and Drew Kibbe of laurel and 1 great grandson nikoli Kibbe of iowa; numerous nieces and nephews, as well as many friends.

Cremation has taken place and services will be held at Peace lutheran 1301 avenue in Billings, on March 15, 2018 at 11 a.m., with a luncheon to follow. arrangements are by Cremation and Funeral gallery. Con- dolences can be sent by visiting www.cfgbillings.com Kaye Jane Dye Johnson Our mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sis- ter passed into the arms of Jesus on the afternoon of March 3, 2018. after nearly a 10-year battle with alzhei- Disease, she finally got to go home. she never want- ed to end up like her mother before her, but it was meant to be.

she fought a hard battle and, at times, her family won- dered why she had to continue the fight. But god had a plan. We fully understand that plan, but we are thankful for every day we had with her. Kaye Jane Dye Johnson was born on aug. 28, 1931, in Dead- wood, south Dakota, to her loving parents, agnes and Max Dye.

at a young age, they moved to Billings, and this is where Kaye spent her life. she attended Broadwater elementary school and graduated from Billings senior High in 1949. she met Howard Johnson while they were at a roller skat- ing rink in Billings. they were married on March 4, 1950. they raised four children in the same house on avenue Doug, Penny, tim and Peggy.

after Peggy started school, she went back to work for after taking a hiatus for a few years. she worked as a tele- phone operator. she worked as an operator you could talk to when you dialed in the later years, she also became a union steward and worked hard for great benefits for at the telephone Company. she absolutely adored her grandchildren. those six chil- dren were the light in her life.

she get to meet her two great-granddaughters but would have loved them as well. Her friends were so important to her. Many were lifelong friends at least lifelong adult friends. Until she she would tell us stories about these ladies who were so im- portant in her life. We thank those who continued to visit her while she was at Morning star.

Kaye was preceded in death by her parents; her husband of 65 years, Howard; and her brother, William Dye. she is sur- vived by all four of her children, Doug, Penny Morse and hus- band Butch, tim and wife Maria, Peggy Canan and husband Rob; and her grandchildren, andy Morse and wife Katanya, Danielle Kaufman and husband nathan, Rachel Canan, aman- da Canan and eric, samantha and Kylee Johnson; her great-granddaughters, Madison Kaufman and Korra Morse; and her sister, Connie Kellogg; brother Jim Dye; and many nieces and nephews. Her family would like to thank Heidi Duncan for being the best doctor our mom could have had. You were so kind and caring even as progressed. We also want to thank each and every one at Morning star assisted living, especially the Reflections Unit.

You treated our mother with respect and dignity until the very end. You laughed with her, hugged her, sat with her and teased her. You were her family and you treated her as such. You became our family as well. We will always love you all.

We will have a memorial service at a later date when we can see green grass and flowers. the date will be announced. Memorials can be made to our local association or to zooMontana. James (Jim) Friguglietti Born July 1936, and raised in Cleveland, OH, intelligently vibrant as student, scholar, and professor, James (Jim) Frigug- lietti died a natural death at about 1:00 or 1:30 a.m., March 5, 2018, in Billings.

public schools gave Jim his elementary and high school education. next, he obtained a B.a. degree from Western Reserve Uni- versity (1958), after which he moved on to Harvard. He there earned a Ph.D. in Histo- ry (1966), which caused many people to know him fondly as His specialty was 18th and 19th century French histo- ry.

that brought him to France many times and he espe- cially loved Paris. He began his career as a at Harvard (1964-66). then came appointments at the University of Roch- ester (1966-69), Case Western Reserve University (1969-76), eastern Montana College (1976-1994), and MsU Billings (1994- 2000). He retired in 2000 as an MsUB emeritus professor. His academic honors were numerous.

early ones included Phi Beta Kappa and a Fulbright grant for study abroad. His list of publications takes up eight pages on his curriculum vitae (CV). those were augmented by many professional presenta- tions (four C.V. pages). He made an abundance of friends at universities and during his years of attending academic con- ferences.

His wide ranging knowledge was on display when he won $10,000 on in 1989. love of books made possible a lifelong journey into the realities of the past. He personified many books, so little and often described himself as a bookaholic. His book collection numbered in the thousands and concerned him about where his books would go after his death. in the last few years his declining health and resulting lim- its on intellectual pursuits disappointed him.

an only child whose parents, Rocco and lillilan, prede- ceased him, he is survived by loving cousins in the Cleve- land area, especially Joseph and Rosemarie De luca and their descendants. at direction there will be no services. arrangements are by Cremation and Funeral gallery. Amy Wilma Orser Swoboda amy Wilma Orser swoboda was born on July 1, 1923 at her Peaceful Heart Ranch at the base of the Pry- or Mountains, five miles from Pryor.

she was the daughter of artie Orser, world-champion bronc rider, and esther Burger Orser. she died of cardiac ar- rest on Feb. 8, 2018, within just a few miles of where she was born. she was interred at the Joliet Cemetery surrounded by her family members. amy was a lifetime member of sons and Daughters of the Montana Pioneers.

she was a direct descendant of Otis Crock- er Whitney, one of the original homesteaders in the Madison Valley. the Whitney homestead still stands near Whitney Point near ennis, Montana. she lived her life with a fierce love of Montana and pride in her pioneer background. Following her untimely death, she returned to the ranch where she was born, and she was raised thereafter by her grandparents, elmer and Maria Whitney Burger. amy graduated in the first graduating class at Billings senior High in 1941.

Follow- ing the sale of the family ranch in 1942 amy and her grand- mother moved back to Billings. in Feb. of 1944, amy traveled across the United states by train and bus and she married her high school sweetheart, Rudy Joe swoboda, in new Bern, north Carolina, where Rudy was stationed at the Cherry Point naval air station. after the end of the war they moved to Bozeman, Montana, where Rudy attended Montana state College. amy attended college class- es and worked part time.

after graduation, they re- turned to Billings where Rudy first worked for and then owned and operated Montana steel and supply. after his sale of that business, Rudy took a post with Morrison Knutson in Boise, idaho, before amy and Rudy moved to Barranquilla, Colum- bia for eighteen months, where Rudy worked on the Cerrejon Mine Project while with Morrison Knutson. amy perfected the art of home-making. she was an enthu- siastic traveler, and she enjoyed several trips with the Friend- ship Force. she enjoyed her trip to Central europe when Rudy consulted on projects there.

she enjoyed trips to visit her chil- dren and grandchildren who lived in distant locations. amy and first child, Patti lynn, was born in Boz- eman in 1948. their son, Jaye thomas, was born in 1953 in Billings. amy was proud of her professional accom- plishments. Patti worked as a trial lawyer and then judge, un- til her retirement.

Jaye is currently a practicing doctor with the Veterans administration in Bozeman, Montana. she left her entire family with a deep sense of the importance of and appreciation for family. in Jan. of 2005, she and Rudy moved into Westpark Vil- lage. Rudy died about a year later.

amy continued her res- idence at Westpark until her death. courage and re- silience in the face of adversity that she learned as a child continued throughout the rest of her life. she fiercely main- tained her independence as long as she possibly could, and she fought back from a stroke that would have completely disabled a lesser person. she refused to give up walking un- til the date of her death. amy and her children are forever grateful for those who visited her during her years of widowhood.

the First Baptist Church community continued supportive visits. Christi tim- mons made amy feel beautiful, even in her last journey. cousin David Orser and his wife Ossie abrams were the sol- id rocks of support for her, and family will never for- get their service. Profound thanks also go to the caring sup- port staff at Westpark Village who enriched final years. loving family plans a celebration of life on her 95th birthday, July 1, 2018, at noon, at chief Plenty Coups state Park in Pryor, Montana.

We plan to celebrate the many good things she left us all. amy is survived by her half-sister, Murial anderson of West Jordan Utah; her daughter Patti and her husband Ray Hunt- er, who live in santa Barbara, California; her granddaughter Whitney and her husband Miles Clarke of lyle, Washington; and her great grandson, theodore Rudy James Clarke. she is also survived by her son Jaye and his wife Metta Ravenheart of ennis, Montana; her grandson a.J. swoboda and his wife Quinn of Portland, Oregon; and her great grandson elliott; her step-grandchildren Matt, sara and gen of new Mexico; and her step great granddaughter isabel, currently of new York. Diane Rae Nagel Diane Rae nagel, age 69, passed away at Billings Clinic iCU with her beloved husband by her side on March 3, 2018.

Diane was born the second of seven children to John H. (Jack) geer and theda ner) geer on august 6, 1948 at trinity Hospital in Wolf Point. Diane was a graduate of both Circle High school (1967) and northern Montana College (1969) with an lPn degree in nursing. While in high school she fell madly in love with Dennis (Pete) nagel and the two soulmates were married and became one on March 15, 1969. Diane and Pete raised their three children in Colstrip.

Diane was a much beloved member of the community and worked at the local branch of First interstate Bank. Diane and Pete built their dream home and retired in Jo- liet in 2008. together they have planted a backyard vineyard and have spent many happy hours perfecting their white wine (lovingly called White trash), kegging home brew and attending local country music festivals with the countless new friends they have made in the Joliet area. Diane was an active member of saint Johns Catholic Church, the local food bank, the Joliet garden Club and of course, the Bun- co Babes of Joliet. Diane is survived by her husband of nearly 49 years Dennis nagel, son Jason nagel of Columbus, son Dusty nagel and his wife Kelly nagel of arlee, their children Hunter nagel, tawnie and Kanoa Palazzolo and daughter tisha nagel and Patrick Do- ane parents to granddaughter Viola Doane of thousand Oaks Ca Charlene and Dave (deceased) schlotte, Bevery and Jer- ry Freeman, laurie McConnell, Montie and lonnie geer, Mary and David Jensen, Chuck and June geer and countless neph- ews and nieces.

a memorial service will be held at 1 p.m. on March 10, 2018, at saint Johns Catholic Church in Joliet with Fr. Masilamani su- vakkin (Fr. Masi) presiding, with an internment at Yellowstone national Cemetery that shall be held in the future at the con- venience of the family. Memorial gifts in Dianes memory can be made to the st.

MISSOULIAN STAFF Two people were shot at a Missoula convenience store early Tuesday morn- ing but fled the scene be- fore police officers arrived. Both men were taken to the hospital, where one was treated and released.

The Missoula Police De- partment reported that at 3:48 a.m. Tuesday morning, officers responded to a re- port of shots fired at a con- venience store in the 2400 block of S. Higgins Avenue. Upon arrival, the officers learned that two suspects had entered the store; one of them brandishing a firearm. They also learned that two individuals had been shot.

However, the two suspects had fled the store prior to arrival. One suspect was de- scribed as being taller than 6 feet, muscular, and wear- ing a dark-colored hoodie. The second suspect was described as being shorter, also wearing a dark hoodie, and brandishing a firearm. The Missoula Police De- partment is investigating the incident. Anyone with information that can be used to identify the sus- pects or otherwise aid in this investigation is asked to call contact either Det.
