He needs to get in a situation that un- comfortable with so he can un- derstand how to get out of it with somebody his size. We (coaches) can do it all day with him, but I can only put so much weight on him and strength for him to actually feel the heavyweight body, and it gives him more dence when he understands more takedowns and more angles. He needs the mat time.

But it was pretty di cult. My rst year I was like 90 pounds and everyone else had 20 pounds on me and I was really weak, but it bring me down.

I joined weight training the next year and gained 20 pounds and I started getting better. Hopefully get to Masters. It all depends on me, how hard I work. Jimmy (Hoang) made it to state for us last year, I went to watch him and see how they wrestle there and I tried to learn from it. I tried to make myself better and push myself harder so I could be like them.

I practice with a lot of people on my team, so seeing them do good makes me think that practicing with them helps them improve. We have a lot of new people on the team this year because a lot of people graduated. Being one of the people who have wrestled more, I feel obligated to make them better so after I graduate they know what to do.

It motivates team people to want to win their Like Arcebal, Gramlick has added 20 pounds to his frame since last season. But at 270 pounds, still outweighed by as much as 15 pounds by opponents. A three-sport athlete, he wrestled in between football and baseball seasons. He came out for wrestling a week late as a sophomore after being pulled up to the varsity for a rst-round playo loss. This past fall, when the Wolves went all the way to the section nals, Gramlick was three weeks late to the mats.

be honest, I think about wrestling now and again during football season even during the he said. when football season, I want to en- joy that glory. When I put on the pads and hit the bags in practice, and when in the game, not thinking about wrestling. But as a heavyweight, you need to be strong and physical and so a lot of heavyweights are football players. The way you train your body in football is still useful in wrestling because you need strength, speed and Being lighter, Gramlick tries to be more ensive than most heavyweights and tends to wrestle like a lightweight wrestler does.

Masters last year, the heavy- weights would do some shots but nobody would get anything in the rst period. In the second period, a guy would choose bottom get up by a point (with an escape), the other guy would do the same thing, and go to overtime and it would go on forever. So I really focus on getting takedowns and getting ahead on points, and then from there try to out-condi- tion my opponent and wear him Gramlick explained. ahead in points you can just work stu on him, even if ahead by one takedown (two points), because then you can get on the bottom get a 3-1 lead (with an escape). In my rst match it was the same thing just work on your take- downs and even if winning, choose bottom so you can work on your bottom and top game.

In the nals, I pinned him in the third period. one thing my coach always emphasizes, going all six minutes, really trying to blow your lungs out so that when you do get to the higher levels, that conditioned for it. You know what going to take to win this match and done it before so I should be able to do it again. So this year is all about Gramlick was the only Wolves grappler to compete in the Doc Buchanan Invitational in the Fresno area, one of the toughest tournaments in the state.
