Arlene Mid-thun garnered 19,700 votes during the past week to boost her total to 50,200 to date and remain in the lead in the contest to select the queen for the 1942 Mt. Horeb fall frolic, contest officials reported today. Delma Nyhus is in second place with 33,100 votes. Standings of other contestants were reported as follows: Dons Hustad 18,500 Elaine Haag 18,200 Doris Zurbuchen 17,500 Phyllis Martinson 8,500 Joann Albert 7,600 Carol Iverson 5,700 Winnifred Endres 4,800 Pearl Wiese 4.200 Joyce Heuser 3,400 Grace Brattlie 3.200 Elaine Zwettler 2,700 Arlene Baumgartner 2,700 Selma Lee 2,200 Leona Greenenfelder 2,200 Dorothy Post 2,100 Bernice Ness 1,700 Rosella Connors 1,600 Betty Jean Garfott 1.600 On Aug. 11, the five lowest in standing will be eliminated, cutting the list of candidates to 15, officials announced.

FENNIMORE, Wis. Fennimores new Diesel electric light plant netted a profit of $4,949.67 for the period ending June 15, according to a report submitted by Supt. Miller and accepted by the city council at its August meeting. For the same period last year, before the Diesel plant was installed, the electric department profits were $598.45. Supporters of the Diesel plant point out that in addition to providing a profit of $4,949.67 after payment of interest on investment, taxes, depreciation, and probable engine maintenance, the new system has furnished work for four more city employes, has saved the city about $600 per year in pumping of the citys water, has meant $1,740 more in taxes for the city, and has resulted in better service.

The 11th annual Stickle family reunion was held Sunday at Vilas park here, with 50 persons attending. George Bulman, Cottage Grove, was elected president for 1943, with Mrs. Phoebe Smithback, Stoughton, vice-president, and Mrs. W. C.

The event was held under the auspices of the United Swiss Societies of America. Music was furnished by Swiss singing societies from many sections of the Midwest, including the New Glarus l'odelers. A Swiss Independence day observance will be held at New Glarus Sunday.

Originally scheduled for last Sunday the program was postponed because of a storm in that area. Walter Netlum of Howard Pulvermacher Howard Pulvermacher, Richland Center, is now in Australia. He entered the army in Apr. 1941, and received his training at Camp Livingston, and Ft. Dev-ens, Mass.

Former Bank Building Sold At New Glarus NEW GLARUS, Wis. The New Glarus Citizen's bank building, which now has a grocery store on the first floor and living quarters on the second, has been sold to Roy Jayberg, Monroe. Possession was given Aug. 1. Constructed in 1910 by the newly organized Citizens bank of New Glarus, the building became the property of the Bank of New Glarus when the two banks merged.

The J. II. Hoesly Insurance Co. recently moved its offices from the building, and the entire first floor is now occupied by Burg-dorffs Royal Blue grocery. The Burgdorff and Porter Nay families live upstairs.

Funeral Is Held For Rewey Mail MINERAL POINT, Wis. Funeral services for Arnold Jenkins, 74. Rewey, who died suddenly while walking with his family in Platteville this week. were held Thursday at the Methodist Episcopal church in Rewey. Survivors are his widow; two sons, Leo and Martin, and several brothers and sisters.

Thompson, who resigned recently. Thompson will enter the army this month. Milk Trucks Re-routed To Save on Tires LANCASTER, Wis. In the interest of tire conservation, trucks hauling milk to Grant county dairy plants must be rerouted to eliminate duplication of trucks on many milk routes in the county, 140 members of the Grant County Dairy Operators Co-operative association decided at a meeting at the Lancaster Country club Wednesday night. Members also expressed the opinion that trucks should arrive at the milk plants earlier in the day and that the trucks should be run on more definite schedules.

Guest speakers at the meeting were Milton Button and Wilbert Witte of the state department of agriculture. Button talked on the topic What Is Expected of the Farmer, and Witte discussed The Real Responsibility of the Milk Hauler. The group will meet at the club Sept. 2. Employes of the various milk plants in the county will be invited to attend.

Farmers Start Victorv Pi" Club MINERAL POINT, Wis. The Production Credit association of this territory is sponsoring a Victory Pig club among farmers for the purpose of buying war bonds and stamps. Farmers may join by designating one or more pigs as Victory pigs, and using the proceeds for the purchase of bonds. Each Victory pig will be marked with a in each ear, and prizes will be awarded for those raising the most and heaviest porkers. Lake Mills Scouts to Park for Camp Session LAKE MILLS, Wis.

Lake Mills Boy Scouts will leave for the Kettle Moraine state park at 1:30 Saturday for a two weeks camping trip. Scoutmaster Lee Lawrence will be in charge. Richland Center, was arrested Wednesday by the U. S. marshal at Richland Center on a charge of sending obscene letters through the mails to her divorced husband, Carl Bruckner, who lives on a farm near Richland Center. Arraigned before Miles C. Riley, federal court commissioner here, Mrs.

Bruckner was bound over to federal court and released on her own recognizance. John J. Boyle, U. S. district attorney, said that Mrs.

Bruckner had been divorced about a year ago. He said that a postoffice inspector had warned Mrs. Bruckner about three months ago to stop sending obscene letters through the mail to her husbands housekeeper. Boyle said that Mrs. Bruckner stopped this, but recently sent letters of an obscene nature to her former husband.

North Lancaster Farmer Is Dead LANCASTER, Wis. Services for William Henry Graham, 75, who died in his farm home in North Lancaster, Wednesday, will be held Saturday at 2:00 p. m. at Congregational church. The Rev.

Mr. Hoffmann will officiate. Burial will be in Hillside cemetery. Survivors are his wife; a son, Hailey, by a former marriage, three grandchildren and a sister, Mrs. W.

C. Bailey, of North Lancaster. Work on Highway Near Dodgeville Near End DODGEVILLE, Wis. Resurfacing of Highway 18 west of Dodgeville to Fennimore, started last year, will be completed within 10 days, according to estimates of project supervisors. Former Platteville Policeman Sues City PLATTEVILLE, Wis.

John Steffens, former Platteville policeman, has brought suit against the city for $683.32. which he claims is owed him. Elton S. Karrmann, Platteville, is Steffens attorney. Baraboo BARABOO, Wis.

Al- vin Nettum, Stoughton, is serving in Australia. He has been in the army since September, 1940. Nettum Mineral Point Church Plans Its Centennial MINERAL POINT, Wis. The congregation of St. Pauls Catholic church here will observe the centennial of the church Sept.

20. Bishop William R. Griffin will celebrate a pontifical high mass, and a centennial dinner and program are being planned. The original edifice was constructed in 1842 as a result of the efforts of a French missionary, and it soon became the center of Catholic activities in southwestern Wisconsin. Well preserved, the structure still stands in the church yard of the present edifice.

Lancaster School Teacher Resigns LANCASTER, Wis. Miss Hope Sandow a teacher in the Lancaster public schools has resigned. Clyde Stewart, teacher of chemistry in the Lancaster public schools has asked the school board for a leave of absence to enter the government radio school at Ashland, Wis Stewart has taught in the schools here for the past twelve years. The number of vacancies now is five. Dodgeville Man Named Rationing Board Agent DODGEVILLE, Wis.

Roy Parsons has been named travelling agent for the Iowa county rationing board and will visit the various communities of the county weekly. The main office of the local board has been moved from the court house to the south room in the Arthur building on Iowa st. BUY WAR BONDS AND STAMPS Monroe Minister Is at Conference MONROE, Wis. Other members are planning to attend some of the sessions Theie will not be services at the Monroe United Brethren church Sunday, the conference extending over until Sunday morning. The conference marks the close of the church year. Women Complete Nutrition Course MONROE, Wis. Fourteen Monroe women have successfully completed the initial Red Cross nutrition course given over a period of 10 weeks in the Monroe high school by Mrs.

Three races Saturday and Sunday feature the harness card at the Jefferson County fair, according to W. F. Copeland, superintendent of speed at the local fair. Headlining Saturdays card is the 2:15 pace which will bring together some fast pacers, including Berry Hedgewood, Highlawn Dale and several others. Saturday's other events are the three-year-old pace, and the 2:24 trot.

The 2.15 trot features Sundays card, plus the 2.24 pace and three-year-old trot. Truckers to Hear War Regulations MONROE, Wis. Truckers of the Monroe area will meet at 8 tonight in the courthouse. The latest information regarding official war regulations affecting the transportation business will be discussed by government representatives. The meeting is sponsored by the Wisconsin Private and Contract Motor Truckers association, and is open to the public.

Evansville Alan Injured in Army EVANSVILLE, Wis. Eugene Harrison, Eansville, who has been in the army since December, 1940, sustained fractures in both hips in an accident in California recently and has been confined to OReilly General hospital at Springfield, Mo. He plans to visit relatives here when he is released from the hospital on furlough. Contract Let to Rebuild Burned Furseth School A VI I. Wis.

Mark Collins, Evansville, has been awarded a contract for rebuilding the Furseth school, southeast of Evansville. Construction work has started and will be completed by Oct. 15. The school burned last spring. Ioica County Completes Plans for Salvage Drive DODGEVILLE, Wis.A.

J. Anderson, chairman of the Iowa county scrap metal drive, has completed preparations for the salvage campaign. The Dodgeville Kiwams club is in charge of the local collection. Dodgeville Boy Scouts have completed collection of used phonograph records here. DODGEVILLE, Wis.

Organization of Mt. Horeb Boy Scout and Girl Scout troops was completed at separate ceremonies here Tuesday. James Gelwicks, Madison, Four Lakes Scout council executive, conducted the ceremonies for the Boy Scout troop. Carl Danhouser was chairman of the meeting and the Rev. E.

R. Anderson spoke. Mrs. Ira Sisk, Madison, regional Girl Scout counseler, presided at the Girl Scout organization ceremonies. Mrs.

Roberta Phyllips, Milwaukee, spoke. The 18 boys invested were Robert Beat, Harland Bloland, Mal-calm Einerson, Jack Frame, James Fosshage, Roland Holum, Steven Hopkins, Hayden Kelly, Vincent Keily, Ralph Lukken, Russell Martin, James Murphy, Charles Redel, Dean Rude, Henry Stein-hower, Louis Sw ingen, Kenneth Zing, and Marvin Zwickey. The Watertown city band, directed by Floyd Bordsen. will play Saturday nights concert in the Lake Mills park, featuring patriotic, classical, and popular tunes. The concert will begin at 8:30. Miss Mary Naset will be vocalist for popular numbers, and Bernard Mullen will play a baritone horn solo number.

Evansville Girl JFins Canning Contest Prize EVANSVILLE, Wis. Lois Klus-meyer, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Harold Klusmeyer, Evansville, was awarded first place in the canning division of the Rock county 4-H victory garden and canning contest sponsored by Sears Roebuck Co. She plans to enter 30 pints of vegetables canned from her garden in the state fair at Milwaukee.

Dodgeville Alderman Resigns from Council DODGEVILLE, Wis. Jess Lewis, alderman from Dodgevilles second ward, has resigned his seat in the city council.
