itdo TownDMeeUni roll Hecien KCHS KEAR, the station that brought classical music to the bay area nearly seven years ago (then under the name of KSMO), will soon be just a memory as far as San Mateo is concerned. Late last week the station increased its output to 10,000 watts, making it the most powerful independent radio station in the Northern California area. At the same time, the station took on a more San Franciscolike atmosphere. Studios for the station are being completed at San Francisco's Mark Hopkins hotel and before long a great deal cf the programming will originate in that location. Although some programs must originate from San Mateo, as long ai the license reads San Mateo, it is not likely that this state of affairs will last long, for we're pretty sure that owner S.

A. Cisler will apply to the commission to more the station to San Francisco on a full time basis. To mark the increase in power, KEAR is presenting a program of special tributes from other similar stations around the nation.

Among the stations sending along the word are WQXR, the nation's first such station, and KSON, San Diego. Most of the stations which broadcast music of this type will take part in the tribute. Meanwhile, the 10,000 watt voice of KEAR will no doubt bring more people within its coverage area, and that'll make the 'classical music boys happy. MILTON BERLE TO L. A.

Next week the Rockefeller family will start demolition of the fabulous "Center theatre" in New York to make room for an office building. This means that number of NBC television shows which have been originating from that edifice will have to move. Because of the tremendous shortage of studio space, NBC is sending Milton Berle to Hollywood and starting May 11, the "Milton Berle Buick show" will originate from the new and well equipped television studios of NBC at Burbank. Berle will remain in Hollywood until the end of his series In late Jane. While there, of course, he will be in gTeat demand for guest work, and he will appear a couple of times on the "Comedy Hour." most continuous, dust storm to reach the third floor offices of the company and the fourth floor studios. After finally reaching our destination in the publicity, public relations department, we found an excellent layout. It probably is one of the most carefully and cleverly designed studio buildings in the West On the fifth floor you find offices of the production staff, and the control rooms of the various studios. On the fourth floor are the huge television and radio studios. One radio studio, much larger than anything the station had lit Radio City, has been completed, while two television studios, either one large enough to hold three studios the size of those they left in Bajlo City, are ready to go.
