Paced by the running of Bryan and Berdell Graves, the Eagles scored once in the second quarter and iced the game ith two touchdowns in the final period, after the Bears had gone ahead with a six-pointer early in the second quarter. The win was a costly one, however. Bob Peavy, hard-hitting quarterback, broke his collarbone early in the game, and will be out of action at least six weeks. Keith Crawley did a good jox as his replacement, but Peavys weiirht and blocking and defensive ability will be missed in the Eagle back-field.

According to Coach Don Claik, his team made several costly mistakes which will have to be remedied before Fridav nights home engagement with Needles. Cool-idges line consistently rushed the passer and blocked one punt. The home team was also permitted to recover an onside kick at the beginning of the game. Several fumbles severely handicapped the Flagstaff offensive. Coolidge reached the Flagstaff ten-yard line three times, but its nnlv score came after recovery of a fumble on the Eagles 25.

Cornell Sipes tallied on a six-yard run. The Eagles dashed back from that disadvantage to recover a Coolidge fumble and go 37 yards for a marker. Brvan bucked over from the one, and then converted the point to igivg the Eagles a permanent lead. Bryan ran six yards for the second score and then passed to End Bob Shafer for the conversion. Graves hustled 50 yards for the final score.

Bryan carried the ball 19 times during the game netting 99 yards. Graves netted 98 yards on 11 carries, and Jesse Williams ran 53 yards in 12 trips with the ball to By JOE REICHLER (Associated Press Sports Writer) New Yorks onrushing Yankees and Brooklyns back-pedaling Dodgers are all but mathematically certain to meet, for the fourth time in 11 years, in baseballs top classic, the worlds series. Both came closer to clinching their respective championships yesterday. The Yankees increased their American league lead over Cleveland to two and a half games, beating the Red Sox in the rubber game in Boston, 6-1. The revenge-minded Tigers meanwhile thumped the Indians for the third straight time in Detroit 9-1.

The Dodgers snapped a two igame losing streak With a 6-2 triumph over the Philadelphia Phillies and retained their three-game National League lead over the hard pressing New York Giants. The Polo Grounders, fighting a seemingly I losing battle, again whipped the 5 Boston Braves, 4-1. The magic number is now three for the Yankees and four for the Dodgers. The Yankees, with a four-game bulge on the important losing side over the Indians and third place Red Sox need win only three of their remaining six to wrap up the flag, even if Cleveland wins its final three and Boston its final games. Two Yankee victories insures at least a tie.

Any combination of four Dodger victories and-or Giant defeats brings the pennant to Brooklyn. If the Dodgers capture four of their last seve'n games, the Giants can win all their remaining five and still wind up also-rans. It takes about 40,000 years to form four feet of good soil, the minimum needed for good crop-producing land. George Halas plans. White, a Mesa, youth who set all sorts of records in high school circles and the border conference scored twice yesterday in a losing cause. The Bears were nipped by the Bittsbuigh Steelers, 23-21, but White kept the Bruins in the running by flagging two forward passes in the first half to enable Chicago to retire at deadlock. INJURED Bob Peavy, a senior backfield man for the Flagstaff High School team, was lost to the squad for probably six weeks Friday night when he suffered a broken collarbone in the game at Coolidge.
