June 23, 1970 Qrwonra Star 11 Oneonta baseball players come from all across the U.S. League umpire assignments Umpires to the New York Pennsylvania League tor the 1970 season (list subject to change): James Grifleth, Glastonbury. Steve Powers, Randolph, Joe BorzeUno, Reading. Gene Robinson, Philadelphia, Joe Myers, Philadelphia, Josh Magldson, Silver Springs, Md; James Bundy, Homer City, Karl Witdermuth, L.I. RICK KRIZ outfielder from Grundy Center, Iowa.

Rick, now 22 and married, played for last year's Oneonta Yankees where he rallied from a slow start to hit .277. He hits from the left and throws right, played high school ball in Grundy Center, collegiate ball at Ellsworth Junior College and at Northern Iowa University, NEPHTALE (PAPO) MORA catcher bats right, throws right. Papo, 21, hails from New York City and is single. He played for the Oneonta Yankees hst season, hilling .237 in 26 games for the NY-P League champions. He showed marked improvement during training this spring and is swinging a good bat in drills since arriving at Damaschke Field, TOM 22 year old catcher from Santa Barbara, Calif He bats and throws right and has shown good power at the plale during early 0-Yank drills.

He made all-city teams during his high school career at Eagle Rock in Los Angeles, played two seasons of professional baseball at Johnson City, Forl Lauderdale and Stock- Ion and has completed two years' military service. ED WATERS outfielder Jrom East Meadow. He bats and throws left, played four years of high school ball at East Meadow and anolher at St. John's. As on Oneonta Yankee outfielder in 1969, Ed made the NY-P all-star team, hit .291 in 75 games -and played brilliantly in the outfield.

He would have undoubtedly played in a higher classification this season but military service intervened. He is in Oneonta by choice in order to get more opportunity to ptay. He played four years of scholastic baseball at South Hills Catholic High where he captained the team in his senior year, hit .353 and was school m.v.p. and Alleghany County m.v.p. He played last year at Johnson City in the Apalachin League where he hit .376 in 56 games.
