Darling has occupied his present post of division engineer since July 1, 1942, with responsibility a of maintenance of more than 1,500 miles of track and 2,700 bridges in western New Mexico, Arizona and southern California. He is well known throughout Arizona. Darling is credited with development of cinder pits at Winona, from which 33,000 cars of ballast for 2,200 miles of track have been taken. He also supervised laying of 257 miles of welded rail, more than any other division engineer on the Santa Fe system. Born at Pacific Grove, he, joined Santa Fe as chairman of the Valley Division of California on Dec.

16, 1912. He was later promoted to rodman, transitman and draftsman. He came to Winslow in 1923, and became acting assistant division engineer a year later. He was confirmed in that post in 1926, and has served under 17 division superintendents at Winslow. State To Mrs.
